Ghana courts investors for green mining technologies in China

Ghana is courting investors in green mining technologies as the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, toured the manufacturing plant of Zijin LongKing Company Limited in China.

Armah-Kofi Buah toured the facility in Longyan City, Fujian Province, on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, as part of his official working visit to attract investors to the country.

The visit included an inspection of electric mining trucks and environmental protection installations.

Armah-Kofi Buah said he was impressed by the range of interventions by the company, spanning renewable energy, environmental protection, pollution control, water purification and safety.

“As I was looking at all the interventions you have made that are productive and really affect every facet of life, I was dreaming of a future where LongKing will be established to serve the African continent,” he said.

“A lot of collaboration and opportunity, and I see a lot of the mining companies who must be here to make sure we use this new technology,” he added.

The Minister also raised the issue of local capacity building, asking, “Internship programmes, how do you build the next set of scientists that continue?”

Armah-Kofi Buah used the opportunity to appeal to the company to establish a training centre in Ghana to train young people so that, in the future, when some of the equipment breaks down, Ghanaian youth can repair it locally.

He concluded: “You can see China is indeed a leader in this cutting-edge technology. I thank you again, thank you for your warm hospitality.”

In response, Huang Wei, President of LongKing, said the company operates a mentor-apprenticeship system for newly graduated university students, involving group training, on-site mentorship, deployment to client sites and further university training to develop the next generation of scientists.

Huang said Zijin Mining Group acquired LongKing because the company is a global leader in environmental protection.

“Zijin is a globally leading mining enterprise and also a very responsible enterprise. Because LongKing is globally leading in the field of environmental protection, after Zijin acquired LongKing, it is to allow LongKing to better serve the green development of Zijin Group,” he said.

He assured the Ghanaian delegation of the Group’s commitment to sustainable operations in Ghana.

“We offer [solutions] in terms of environmental protection and also mining to ensure that mining activities are conducted in Ghana in a green and sustainable way,” Huang said, adding that “these mining operations in Ghana will definitely be green and sustainable operations.”
