This alone will open up a lot of spaces for bright but needy students who want to get into category a shs to also get spots. Does this guy even understand why some schools are deemed cat a etc? You don't just get up and make a school a category a. These schools have history. They have churned out nationally and globally recognized alumni..these schools have invested in sports, academics, music etc Ghana leaders I smh I don't know what's wrong with them they are allergic to change..the thing is bad and instead of changing they will sit in it saaa idiots

Boarding schools system is a colonial legacy that should be phase out and building good primary, middle and high schools in all constituencies, these schools should only absorb inhabitants of the constituencies, also they should add community colleges for two year associate degree and later transfer to the university for the degree
I suggest MPs should advocate for this system so that we get rid of this colonial board system

It is not just possible to phase out Boarding and Lodging schools in Ghana. This is not an option for some parts of the country. I remember teaching at the Ghana Secondary School in Tamale. Many of the students came from towns and villages that were about 10 or 15 Miles from the school. How do you make students from such places Day Schools. Some people who were lucky to have Bicycles rode 15 Miles to School and 15 Miles back home. That was a Herculean job. And it was even a luxury to own a Bicycle at some poor and deprived areas.
There was also the risk for students to be rented rooms and huts to live in the absence of their parents. How many of the girls will become pregnant by the end of the year? And some of the boys will become Petty thieves and Weed Smokers. In the end, the students were just dumped in the Dormitories and some classrooms because Dormitories after school. It was just bad and unfortunate.
University Graduates from the North did not easily accept postings to their own districts. Many from the South will just not accept positions to the North, especially when National Service personnel were never paid regularly for many months. How were the many students to be fed? Who was to cook for them? When I taught there, some Form Five and Upper Sixth Students have had no Teachers for the Previous year. There are no easy ways going around it. My Headmaster Mr. Kudiagbor was doing all he could to maintain me because I was handling three A Level and two O Level subjects. These were not paid Extra Classes because the parents of the students were very poor to pay for Extra Classes as was done in the South. I liked the students and the people of Tamale because they were very respectful and disciplined as compared to the Southerners.
The Government can give Teachers and other Educational Workers there some Soft Loans so that the workers can live in the bigger towns and ride to the villages to work daily. From what I saw and experienced, there is no way I will let any of my family members to accept postings to such deprived areas. Ask Mahama, Bawumia and the other Politicians, including the MPs who will want a family member to be posted to work there even though that is where they come from. If they will not, why should my family members do? I will rather finance my family members to migrate to the Developed Western World to seek Greener Pastures.

Today, the digitized hospital system set up by NPP has been replaced with notebooks so that people can do whatever they want.

The categorisation of shs has become an annual monster. What about if there are no categories of shs ? If shs have been categorised, then there must be categories of syllabus for each category of schools. Why is it that category A schools write same exams with category B, C etc schools and vice versa? How do you expect a day shs students write the same exams as those in the category A boarding schools? Many day shs lack many basic facilities like classrooms, table and chairs, teachers etc and these students will write the same exams which aren't categorised at the end of the 3 year term. How do you expect students to write IT exams when all that the students had was IT teacher ? Very unfair and nothing is been done to harmonise these discrepancies in the educational system. This placement monster would have been eliminated if all shs are at par with each other school
