GH¢120,000, scholarships, foreign trips await NSMQ 2026 finalists

Old students of Accra Academy, St. Augustine’s College and PRESEC Legon have rolled out major financial and educational incentives for their respective teams ahead of the 2026 National Science and Math Quiz (NSMQ) Grand Finale on Thursday, September 10, 2026.

The support packages are intended to motivate the finalists as they battle for the coveted NSMQ trophy, with cash rewards, scholarships and an all-expenses-paid vacation among the incentives announced.

For St. Augustine’s College (AUGUSCO), three old students – Francis, Elton and Duncan – have pledged GH¢10,000 each for every contestant for reaching the final, as well as an additional GH¢10,000 for the faculty.

The reward will rise to GH¢30,000 each for every contestant and GH¢30,000 for the faculty if AUGUSCO wins the competition, bringing the total package to more than GH¢120,000.

The group has also promised an undisclosed package for the team both in Ghana and abroad should the school secure its third NSMQ title. Broadcaster and old student Nathaniel Attoh has similarly pledged an undisclosed package to the team if they win the trophy.

Accra Academy, meanwhile, has secured a major educational package for its finalists, with old students Bleoobi John Osei-Wusu, Executive Chairman of JP Trustees Ltd., and Bleoobi Philip K. Tieku, CEO of Star Oil Ghana, announcing the establishment of an educational fund.

The fund will cover all three contestants as well as every member of the team, providing full scholarship support for their tertiary education, whether in Ghana or abroad, and regardless of their chosen university or field of study.

“Our intention is to demonstrate Development for Life, an investment that goes beyond the competition,” the statement said.

The initiative, facilitated by Richard Abbey Jnr, Founder of Forty Under 40, is intended to support the students beyond their participation in the quiz.

For seven-time champions PRESEC Legon, old students and sponsors have also lined up an all-expenses-paid vacation package for the team as they seek to secure an eighth NSMQ title.

Accra Academy is making history as it competes in the grand finale for the first time in its 94-year history, after recording 54 points to defeat Achimota School and Bright Senior High School in the qualifying contest.

The school will face defending giants PRESEC Legon and two-time champions St. Augustine’s College in the September 10 grand finale, with the three schools entering the contest backed by significant incentives from their old students and supporters.
