Seven people have died and 21 others sustained injuries in a fatal road crash on the Hwideim-Acherensua Highway in the Ahafo Region.

The accident, which occurred on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, involved a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter with registration number GT-9931-09 and a Kia Picanto with registration number BA-731-20.

In a statement dated September 11, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said preliminary reports indicated that the Sprinter suffered a tyre burst, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle.

“The vehicle subsequently somersaulted and crashed into the Kia Picanto, resulting in the deaths and injuries,” the statement said.

Bunso crash leaves one dead, 14 injured

Firefighters from the Hwideim District Fire Station responded to the incident, rescued the victims and transported them to the St Elizabeth Hospital, Hwideim, for medical attention.

The Ahafo Regional Commander of the GNFS, ACFO II Samuel Ferdie Tetteh, later visited the injured at the hospital.

During the visit, he wished the injured victims a ‘speedy recovery.’
