Nursing student drags mother to TV over two fathers, demands DNA test

A nursing student, Ivy Akorful, has dragged her mother, 40-year-old Rita Opoku, to Lawson Afisem, a television programme on Lawson TV that seeks to resolve domestic disputes, over a long-standing dispute concerning her biological father.

According to Ivy, she is torn between two men, Uncle Ato and Yaw Obeng and does not know which of them is her biological father.

Speaking on the programme on September 8, 2026, Ivy called for a DNA test involving the two men to determine who her biological father is.

Ivy explained that she had lived with Uncle Ato for the past years but eventually became uncertain about his relationship with her and questioned whether he was truly her biological father.

“I stayed with my father for the past ten years and I realised that the way the man was taking care of me, I wasn’t convinced. So, I told my mother and she said he is not my father,” she said.

According to Rita Opoku, she began a relationship with Uncle Ato when she was 16 years old and lived with him despite the fact that he had two other wives.

She said Uncle Ato initially provided shelter for her but later began maltreating her. It was during this period that she met Yaw Obeng, with whom she fell in love and had an affair, resulting in her pregnancy.

Rita further alleged that she and Yaw were afraid of Uncle Ato at the time and therefore decided to make him believe that he was the father of the unborn child. She said they agreed that after she gave birth, Yaw would eventually take responsibility for the child.

“When I got pregnant, the two of us agreed that we were afraid, so I told him, after I give birth, then we decide.”

Rita said she continued to keep Yaw informed about the child after her birth and that he occasionally visited her.

“So, I used to call him and update him about the child and sometimes he comes and visits her and goes,” she said.

The matter has now resurfaced on the television programme after Ivy said her mother, who had introduced Uncle Ato as her biological father since her birth, is now claiming that Yaw Obeng is her biological father.

Ivy is therefore demanding a DNA test involving Uncle Ato and Yaw Obeng to establish the truth about her paternity and determine who her biological father is.
