GH₵1,000 is not a small contribution for a low-income household.

For someone earning around GH₵1,000 a month, a GH₵1,000 contribution represents an entire month’s income.

For someone earning GH₵2,000, it represents 50% of their monthly income.

Even for someone earning GH₵3,000, GH₵1,000 is still one-third of their monthly earnings.

That means any proposal for a GH₵1,000 contribution has to recognize the enormous difference between what may look like a modest contribution to a high-income professional and what it means to an ordinary worker, trader, farmer, driver, apprentice, or small-business owner.

The real question should therefore be:

Can ordinary Ghanaians realistically afford GH₵1,000, and is such a contribution genuinely voluntary?

Religious projects can be valuable to communities, but financial expectations should reflect the economic reality of the people being asked to contribute.

You cannot design a contribution around what wealthier people can afford while ignoring the millions of Ghanaians whose monthly income is already stretched by food, rent, transportation, school fees, healthcare, utilities and other basic expenses.

What I struggle to understand is the persistent fixation on whether government funds should be part of this project. The answer, surely, lies in what the cathedral will be used for once complete. If it can host state functions, then there is nothing wrong with combining public and private funds to see it through — rather than abandoning it as an unfinished eyesore.

The argument that we have more pressing needs is not enough to justify killing the project. We will never exhaust the list of needs raised by KSM and other critics; our needs evolve and multiply by nature, and we must learn to address them in parallel rather than in strict sequence. Treating national priorities as a queue — where one dream must wait for every other need to be met before its turn comes — is a convenient way to defer indefinitely rather than actually decide.

Critics rightly point to hospitals, schools, and roads as more urgent claims on the public purse, and that concern deserves a serious answer, not a dismissal. But governance is rarely a matter of choosing one need and starving the rest; budgets are built to run several priorities side by side, each at a pace its funding allows. The honest question, then, is not whether the cathedral competes with a hospital for the same cedi, but whether its share of state involvement is proportionate to its public use. If it is, the opportunity-cost argument loses its force — it becomes an argument for scrutiny and proportion, not for abandonment.

An elephant does not wait for every other animal to drink before it takes its turn. Ambitions worth pursuing should be pursued together, not one at a time.

We know from the Holy scriptures that when God gives somebody a genuine and authentic vision to carry out a clearly defined project He also gives the person PROVISION to bring this about, often through extraordinary and sometimes miraculous means. The National Cathedral was clearly an ego trip that had no clear purpose in a country like Ghana. Sadly many high profile religious leaders jumped on the bandwagon for a variety of reasons and motives and in the process sullied their reputation. The fundamental Bible truth that is often ignored by many of those professing to be Christian is the fact that God is a Spirit and those who worship Him must do so in spirit and in truth. The Holy Scriptures also repeatedly reminds us that God dwells in the hearts of his people and not in buikdings. The Church in its fullest sense is a gathering of true believers and worshipers of the God of Heaven whether they are gathered under a tree, in a classroom, a tin shack building or in someone's home or in an auditorium. Once true believers vacate a building after worship,God does not remain in it even if it is the most impressive or beautiful building in town. The most famous temple dedicated to God, Solomon's temple no longer exists but God is still God to this day.
God used the COVID pandemic to remind us all of what really matteres most to Him. Almost all churches,cathedrals, auditoriums were shutdown and everybody stayed at home. Most of us attended online church for many months. The big budget church programs were all suspended,yet the work of God in the hearts of men and women continued more than ever before all over the world as the Almighty shut down everything.
WAS GOD REMINDING US,ESPECIALLY THOSE WHO PURPORT TO BE OUR RELIGIOUS LEADERS THAT IMPRESSIVE BUILDINGS, BIG BUDGET HEADLINE-GRABBING PROGRAMS ARE NOT ON HIS LEAST OF PRIORITIES WHEN IT COMES TO SPREADING THE GOSPEL OF CHRIST?
The truth is that most big budget ostensibly God-honouring projects ( including those imposing cathedrals in Europe that literally hundreds of years to build) were the works of man and not God. They were ego trips to be honest.
God's primary assignment to the President of Ghana is for him to govern justly with compassion and to lift the downtrodden and give them a better life. He will only be able to do this if he daily calls on God for strength.

This proposed national cathedral is supposed to be located inn Accra. Are we expecting Christians from Bogoso in the Western region to often go there to worship. Why can’t the proponents and sympathizers for the development of such a useless project contemplate on how many Ghanaian youth can the amount to be used in such a useless project support in skills development so that some of them do not resort to arm robbery. Hunger is real in Ghana so let us divert resources which go into corruption and personal-ego projects to support the training of our youth to enable the to find gainful employment which will support whole families. The Christian Council members should reread the bible and reset their priorities. Look for a large plot of land outside the city and build the Cathedral, which can also serve as a tourist attraction place. Foreigners and visitors who would like to visit the place must be transported in mini/buses to the place for a fee to generate income.

The present location of the proposed Cathedral is totally wrong, Accra is choked. No penny from the national coffers must be spent on any National Cathedral but should be wholly funded by the Christian Council, churches and individuals who wish to help realize that wishful dream of Akufo Addo.

How many churches do we have in Ghana that doesn't pay taxes? Therefore, the National Cathedral is not in the interest of the ordinary Ghanaian who is struggling to put food on the table.

The whole idea of the National Cathedral, its location and funds from state coffers to construct is absolutely wrong. Entities must build the Cathedral at a different location to generate income or forget about it. Government must use state funds to create jobs for the people.

As a nation we can build it easily over a period of 15 years and the returns will be over 10 fold in 15 years after or even at its intermittent stages. A thing even The Moslem Council had supported in payment already for the benefit of the nation and Christians. Christian Council with their profound knowledge would never let it be in vain. With every possible means Churches would contribute voluntary to bring the Cathedral project into fulfilment.
The project definitely can not be completed within two years. Who knows the mentality of the next one to be in place. It is written Psalm 127:1 Unless the Lord builds the house, the builder labour in vain..... No matter the system the Cathedral would come to fulfilment. IN GOD WE TRUST. AMEN.
