545 Ghanaians were denied World Cup visas – Kofi Adams

A total of 545 out of 986 visa applications processed through the government’s system for Ghanaian fans and other travellers seeking to attend the 2026 FIFA World Cup were unsuccessful, Minister of Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams has disclosed.

The figure means only 441 applications, representing less than half of those processed, were successful.

Adams made the revelation when he appeared before Parliament’s Youth and Sports Committee on Thursday, September 17, 2026.

According to the Minister, the government’s system handled 986 visa applications as part of efforts to facilitate travel for Ghanaians intending to attend the tournament.

“So, visa processing outcomes, we were able to process through our system a total of 986 visa applications, but 441, or a little over that, were successful,” Adams told the committee.

The Minister, however, clarified that the government’s figures did not cover all Ghana-related visa applications for the tournament.

He explained that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) separately processed applications for members of the Black Stars, former players and other officials.

“The Ghana Football Association also did process some of the visas also. They processed those of the players; they processed those of some former players and other officials,” he added.
