‘I lied about being a June 3 victim’ – Man apologises after landlady exposes him

A man identified as Mawuli has apologised to Ghanaians after he was exposed for falsely claiming to be a victim of the June 3 twin disaster in Accra that claimed several lives and destroyed properties.

Mawuli had reportedly presented himself as a victim of the disaster and used a crutch to give the impression that he had difficulty walking.

Based on his claim, some well-meaning Ghanaians were moved by his situation and donated money to help him.

However, his landlady later exposed the claim, saying Mawuli was not a victim of the June 3 disaster and could walk without the use of crutches.

According to her, the burns he suffered were from an accident that occurred in his village before he moved to Accra.

“He can walk without having to use crutches. If I am lying, God should deal with me. He isn’t a June 3rd victim. The accident that caused burns on him rather happened in his village. He is very healthy,” the landlady said.

Following the revelation, Mawuli admitted that he had lied about being a victim of the disaster and appealed to Ghanaians for forgiveness.

He explained that the fire incident happened in his village, where he lived before relocating to Accra.

“I admit that I am not a victim of the June 3rd twin disaster. The fire incident in which I was involved happened in my village, where I was before relocating to Accra. I want Ghanaians to forgive me for my actions. Henceforth, I will not tell lies,” he explained.

Mawuli also apologised to those who supported him financially after believing his account of the incident. He said he had decided to stop lying and admitted that his actions were wrong.

“I lied about being a victim of the June 3rd disaster. I’m sorry, and I cease to lie from this time forth.”
