My spirit can never allow me to listen to such stuff - Ntim Fordjour reacts to Ghana Jollof comments

Assin South MP, Rev John Ntim Fordjour, has rejected any suggestion that his criticism of the handling of the Ghana Jollof case means he supports statements attributed to the platform.

During an exchange on Newsfile hosted by Samson Lardy Anyenini, Ntim Fordjour was asked directly whether he endorsed the statements made by Ghana Jollof.

Ntim Fordjour said he did not.

“The things that Ghana Jollof has been saying, well, some of us, because of this show and because I have to moderate it, I have to go and listen to some of them, even though my spirit can never allow me to listen to such stuff,” he said.

Samson Lardy then pressed him on the issue, asking whether he endorsed those statements.

“Do you endorse them?” Samson asked.

Ntim Fordjour responded: “How can I endorse what I disagree with?”

He explained that his objection to how the law is applied should not be confused with support for statements he considers unacceptable.

Ntim Fordjour said his political outlook was shaped by people he admired while growing up, particularly figures from the 1980s and 1990s who were willing to criticise governments and challenge political authority.

He said those figures came from both sides of the political divide.

“I’ve mentioned persons of both sides. That is my orientation,” he said.

According to Ntim Fordjour, Ghana’s political culture has gradually moved away from that tradition of fearless criticism.

He warned that political actors could eventually create a problem for themselves if they encourage people to make increasingly aggressive statements for political benefit.

“If we think that we are going to be benefiting from certain architecture and raising certain baby lions, those baby lions will grow and they will come to thank you,” he said.
