Many mechanics in Ghana are making money than working in the banks and also in the public service by far. Mechanics are making fortunes low-key if u care to know.

I know a lady who sells just "pure water at Accra central who makes not less than 400 Cedis as profit daily. Multiply that for a month and u will respect that office.

3. Even if the mechanic lacked formal education it might be that he never had the opportunity to go to school
4. Some of these writeups tend to look down upon some vocations and that is why our youth are all looking for white collar jobs and sitting jobless at home after their education.

The statement is an insult, a stigma and very divisive. It is a shame on Ghanaweb for coming out with such a foolish article about a "Mechanic's" daughter as if daughters of mechanic cannot be bright in school.

Stop being a typical know-it-all jackass of the worst kind. There are various use of the word/ description "mechanic". In the not so long distant past, Ghanaians did not use the word mechanic but "fitter" for people who worked on cars.

A majority of the "fitters" of the time were either not certified by any car or auto manufacturer or repair institute while most roadside fitters did not complete their apprentiship training because they wanted to start making money on their own mostly doing hatchet work on unsuspecting car owners.

If the father of the lady in the article does not own his shop and not a certified mechanic or better yet master mechanic then I guarantee his take home pay to be no more than $500/Ghc5,500 a month. That income will not leave much as disposable income for family entertaiment and other luxuries in life and payment of a tertiary level expenditures for the daughter.

I do not believe the write-up was an insult or degrading but a story of "rags to riches" even if the recent graduate is not "out of the woods" yet; she has to get a full-time job with both retirement and medical benefits and a decent monthly wage that can support her and spare money for her parents and sibblings.
