Who fought, conquered who, and sold who into Slavery? African tribes sold their own into Slavery. If there should be any Reparations, African countries should be made to pay for their stupid actions. When the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade was being abolished, the Asante people were very much against it. Let Africans pay for the Reparations.

The coming into prominence of the Asanteman in the early 18th century which was the peak of the transatlantic slave trade, was because they initially used gold to purchase relatively then modern guns and ammunition in large quantities. The Denkyiras had looked on when these guns were transported through their territory later to be used against them and be replaced as suppliers of their fellow Africans to the Europeans at the coast as slaves.
It is absurd for the Asantehene to be claiming boastfully that it conquered neighboring Akan lands through force of arms and that these areas that the Asantes pillaged for both materials and slaves must still pay allegiance to Asantehene in the 21st.century. This must not be allowed. Asantes should pay reparations and return all stolen materials ro their rightful owners.

The fact is that in the Gold Coast coast there was no slavery before that transatlantic slave trade was abolished.
When the transatlantic slavery was abolished, people who had captives to sell to the white man no more had that market to sell the captives or those they trafficked.
There were cases of people visiting places they know are far from their villages, tell stories of impending wars. They tell families that they are taking their children to safety and bring them back after the war was over.
They go to sell those people together with their children. A friend of mine to me that when his grandmother and granduncle where sold and they worked and bought their liberty, the former owner could not sell them again, so he gave guns to people to kill them.
There are some families in Ghana who must as well pay reparation to the grand and great grandchildren of their slaves and trafficked ones.

The unfortunate slaves were NEVER hunted. Majority of them were captured in inter-tribal wars; a good number were family members who were sold in a practice known as PANYARING; being exchanged as payment for debts owed by their families. Villages were also raided by slave raiders who then sold their captives to the buyers.
Mahama is not the only person who has studied the history of the Slave Trade. Domestic slavery existed in Africa and in many countries before the slave trade was started.
