A senior officer of the Ghana Armed Forces has warned his younger brother, a newly passed-out private soldier, not to use their family relationship as an excuse to flout military rules and regulations.

The senior officer, Entsie issued the warning after the passing-out ceremony of his brother, Private Entsie. In a video captured after the ceremony, the newly enlisted soldier is seen paying the necessary military compliments to his senior brother before joining other members of the family.

The senior officer advised him not to regard their family relationship as an opportunity to misbehave in the service.

He urged him to adhere strictly to the standards, rules and requirements of the military.

He stressed that there is no room for preferential treatment or family considerations in the military, warning his brother that he must address him according to military protocol whenever they meet while on duty.

“How are you, my brother? Congratulations. You are my brother, but you have joined the military, and in the military, there is nothing like brothers. When you see your brother, you pay the proper compliment: ‘Good morning, sir.’ There is nothing like ‘bro, bro.’ Do you understand?” he said.

The senior officer further cautioned the newly passed-out soldier not to use their relationship as an excuse for failing to perform his duties.

“You are my brother, but don’t come and do brother with the service. Make sure you do what the work requires of you. Don’t say, ‘Brother, I am sick; I cannot come to work.’ You do what the military is telling you to do.

“There is nothing like brothers in the military. Do whatever the military is asking you to do. Make sure you comply with orders. When I call you, you respond, ‘Sir.’ If you don’t know and you call me ‘bro,’ I will deal with you. Do you understand?

“Make sure you do not take me as an excuse. When they call, ‘Fall in,’ don’t use me as an excuse. Do you understand?” he added.
