Hon Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah is the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources
The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has dismissed reports suggesting that the sector minister, Hon Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, MP, has resigned from the Board of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod).
In a press release issued on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, the Ministry described the claims circulating on social media and in some publications as false and not reflective of the facts.
“The Ministry wishes to state categorically that the reports are false and do not reflect the facts. Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah has not resigned from GoldBod, nor has there been any disagreement between him and the Ghana Gold Board,” the statement said.
According to the Ministry, the minister initially served personally on the GoldBod Board.
In January 2026, he nominated the Chief Director of the Ministry, Marcus Haligah, to represent him.
The decision was described as purely administrative, driven by the minister’s demanding schedule and extensive responsibilities.
At the time, Armah-Kofi Buah was handling duties across two Ministries, making it difficult for him to personally attend all board meetings and engagements of GoldBod.
He, therefore, designated the Chief Director, a senior official of the Ministry, to represent him.
The Ministry noted that this arrangement is consistent with GoldBod’s governance framework, which allows designated representatives to serve on the Board on behalf of members where applicable.
It added that a recent clarification by GoldBod itself confirmed the same position: the minister served personally at the outset but later nominated the Chief Director due to his busy schedule and inability to attend Board meetings regularly.
The Ministry stressed that it continues to enjoy a good working relationship with GoldBod.
It cited ongoing collaborations, including a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Ghana Geological Survey Authority (GGSA) and GoldBod to intensify exploration of mining activities, as well as, joint efforts with the Responsible Cooperative Mining (rCOMSDEP) programme on responsible mining.
GoldBod is also working with the Forestry Commission on land reclamation and has supported NAIMOS with vehicles as part of collaborative efforts.
“Hon Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah therefore remains committed to the Government’s agenda of strengthening Ghana’s gold sector, increasing local value retention, promoting responsible mining and ensuring that the country’s mineral resources contribute meaningfully to national development,” the statement added.
The Ministry urged the public, media organisations and other stakeholders to disregard reports linking the minister’s decision to any disagreement, conflict or dissatisfaction with GoldBod.
It encouraged reliance on official communications from the Ministry and the Ghana Gold Board on matters concerning the governance and operations of the Board.
