Gambia coach Johnathan McKinstry
Gambia coach Johnathan McKinstry has claimed he noticed tension among Ghana players during the Black Stars’ 4-2 defeat to the Scorpions.
Speaking at the post-match conference McKinstry said the second goal from a long throw changed the momentum and emotions of the game, while he observed disagreements between some Ghana players.
“We noticed that a few of the Black Stars players were unhappy with each other. We spoke about that at half-time. Even as they were coming into the dressing room, there were strong words being said between some of our opponents, so we knew there was disruption there,” he said.
He added that Gambia remained patient and stuck to their tactical plan after going 2-0 down, believing they would eventually create opportunities.
“We really didn’t change tactically when we went 2-0 down. We stuck to the plan because we knew we just had to be patient. We had like an hour to go in the game, so we felt if we stuck to the plan, we would get our chances,” he added.
