It is sad to read some of the abusive comments here because I think we may be missing the real issue.

The key question is simple: Were these returnees given assurances of job opportunities by the government or the Foreign Minister before they agreed to return to Ghana?

This question matters because the Foreign Minister publicly stated that the government had secured about 200 employment opportunities and would actively facilitate jobs for returnees who were willing and able to work.

So rather than attacking the returnees, journalists should establish exactly what was communicated to them before their return: What were they promised? What did they understand those assurances to mean? And how many of those promised opportunities have actually materialised?

This is where journalism can help: ask the simple questions, establish the facts, and let the truth speak for itself.

Because your lives were in danger and government saw it fit to evacuate you from danger, does not mean you get special treatment than the people already in Ghana looking for jobs.
If you have some special skills, then you would definitely get job offers, otherwise better shut up and accept the Ghc 1500 like other probably more qualified Ghanaians. You should rather be grateful that you were not left to die as some Ghanaians and Nigerians have suffered.
