Bad weather isn't just an inability to see well, it takes away part of your control, and you can't just come down vertical hoping to land when you've gain altitude, that alternative is in itself crash-laden. However that doesn't rule out other workarounds which the pilot could have used;
In a tumultuous situation up there however, only a few can master their confusion to think outside off training. With the heli to, it's easier to pullout safe from these situations than a regular plain "IF THE PILOTS WERE ALONE" the passengers in a helicopter situation can literally see everything that's going on and channel their phobia the pilots an that's where confusion starts.
Once the passengers realize the pilot appeared confused, they pile up pressure such the the pilot can only get more confused and you know what...
Be that as it may, you can't exactly know fully what happened in the moment, not even the black box says it all
