A withdrawal or discontinuance of a case does not, by itself, establish that the allegations were true or false, nor does it necessarily amount to an admission of wrongdoing. However, once proceedings are discontinued, there may be greater room for either side to present its own interpretation of why the matter was not determined on the merits.

That is why Dr. Ayew should think carefully before allowing the case to simply fall away, especially if he believes the allegations against him are false and damaging to his reputation.

Owusu Bempah is a public figure who has a platform from which he can repeatedly discuss matters concerning people he has previously mentioned. If this case is withdrawn without a judicial determination, Dr. Ayew should consider whether that could later be used rhetorically to support a version of events that he disputes.

The important point is this: if there are serious allegations that can properly be determined by the court, the strongest course may be to allow the appropriate legal process to run its course and let the evidence be tested.

Dr. Ayew should not allow a dispute that can be addressed through evidence and due process to become a matter of competing narratives on a public platform.

If Owusu Bempah made statements that Nana believes are false and defamatory, let him prove them in court. If the court finds that the statements were false and legally actionable, Nana should pursue whatever remedies the law provides, including damages where appropriate.

And if an apology is warranted, it should come from the person who made the allegations—not a junior pastor being asked to carry the burden for someone else’s words.

No pulpit speeches, no shifting of blame. Let the evidence speak, and let the court decide

However, without a determination on the merits, Owusu Bempah could later offer his own interpretation of why the case ended and potentially use the absence of a judgment to support his narrative.

That is why you should think carefully before discontinuing the matter. If you maintain that the allegations were false, defamatory and damaging to your reputation, allow the court to test the evidence and determine whether you are entitled to a legal remedy.

You can accept an apology while still insisting on accountability through the appropriate legal process, subject to the terms of any settlement or the court’s orders.

Doctor, don’t let this matter disappear without careful consideration. Don’t allow the person who allegedly caused the reputational harm to control the narrative afterward. Those who occupy the pulpit carry influence, and with that influence comes a responsibility to speak carefully, act responsibly and be accountable for serious allegations.

Doctor, perhaps this is your opportunity to turn a difficult situation into a principled stand—not out of hatred or revenge, but out of a desire to see greater integrity within the church.

If Dr. Ayew maintains that the statements were false, defamatory, and caused reputational harm, he should consider allowing the court to determine the matter rather than discontinuing the proceedings prematurely. If the apology is genuine, it can be accepted as a gesture of reconciliation while the legal process continues to determine whether the statements were defamatory or otherwise actionable and whether any further remedy is justified.

The important thing is to separate forgiveness from legal accountability. Accepting an apology does not have to mean surrendering a legitimate legal claim, unless the terms of the apology or a settlement expressly resolve the matter.

So, Doctor, accept the apology if you believe it is sincere—but do not assume that an apology alone answers every legal question. If you believe your reputation has been unlawfully harmed, let the court determine the issues that remain.

Don’t pursue this out of revenge. Pursue it for accountability, clarity and justice. Let the evidence be tested, let the court decide, and let any financial or other remedy follow only if the law says it is warranted.

If Owusu Bempah personally made the statements complained of, it is reasonable to expect him to take responsibility for his own words.

If people repeatedly see questionable conduct, inflammatory statements, failed prophecies, financial exploitation, or behavior that contradicts the values being preached, they should not simply look away

They should ask questions, demand accountability, and be willing to walk away when their trust is abused

A religious leader cannot maintain influence without a willing audience. The congregation ultimately gives the pulpit its power

So, boss, the uncomfortable question is not only, “Why are these people calling themselves prophets?” It is also: “Why do thousands of people continue to follow them despite the warning signs?”

We need a culture where faith does not mean abandoning critical thinking. Respect for religion should never mean surrendering judgment
