Business mogul and industrialist Ibrahim Mahama has urged Ghanaians with entrepreneurial ambitions to move beyond planning and take concrete steps towards starting their businesses.

Speaking at the fifth anniversary celebration of Dzata Cement on October 6, 2026, Ibrahim Mahama encouraged aspiring entrepreneurs not to allow fear of failure or uncertainty to prevent them from pursuing their goals.

He urged them to set ambitious targets, believe in their abilities and approach their ventures with confidence and determination.

“Do not be afraid to start. You have to take the first step and believe that you can do it,” Ibrahim Mahama said.

He also encouraged prospective business owners to draw inspiration from his entrepreneurial journey, noting that building a successful business requires courage, persistence and a willingness to take calculated risks.

According to him, aspiring entrepreneurs should not wait for perfect conditions before starting, but should instead identify opportunities and take action.

The anniversary celebration also brought attention to concerns over dust emissions associated with the unloading of cement cargo at Ghana’s ports.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority’s Director of Ports, Tebon Zumah, identified the use of grabs and hoppers among the equipment contributing to the release of dust during cargo handling.

He said the authority was exploring alternative handling systems as part of efforts to improve operations at the country’s ports and reduce the environmental impact of cargo handling.

“We are looking at alternative systems that can help us deal with the dust problem,” Zumah said.

He explained that in the coming years, the GPHA intended to push cement manufacturers towards cargo-handling methods that would prevent visible dust emissions while vessels were berthed.

The initiative, he said, formed part of the authority’s broader plans to modernise cargo-handling operations and improve efficiency at Ghana’s ports.

The issue is particularly relevant to cement handling, where the unloading of bulk cement and other related materials can generate dust if appropriate equipment and containment systems are not used.

Zumah said the authority would continue engaging industry players to find practical solutions that balance efficient cargo handling with environmental considerations.

At the anniversary event, Dzata Group Holdings Human Resources Director, Philip Adai Mensah, also urged employees to remain committed to their work and serve with perseverance.

He said dedication and loyalty were important not only to the growth of the company but also to the personal development and well-being of employees.

“Your commitment to your work speaks to who you are, and the respect you earn at work also follows you home,” Mensah said.
