Mustapha Gbande is the Deputy General Secretary of the NDC
Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande has said the party’s biggest threat ahead of the 2028 elections is not the New Patriotic Party (NPP), but the NDC itself.
Speaking on Onua TV’s Onua Maakye monitored by MyNewsGh.com, Gbande said the party’s future would depend largely on how it manages its internal relationships, members and governance.
“The real danger to the NDC is not the NPP conference; it is the NDC and its governance,” he said.
He stressed that the NDC should focus less on the NPP’s newly elected executives and pay greater attention to maintaining unity within its own ranks.
“The danger can only come from within our own house rather than from the current crop of executives chosen by our political opponents,” he said.
Gbande said the party’s handling of its internal structures and relationships would determine its success in the next general election.
“How we manage our relationships, our members and our structures ahead of 2028 is what will determine our success,” he stated.
He also downplayed suggestions that the NPP’s new leadership poses a major threat to the NDC.
“Our biggest threat is not the NPP,” he said.
Commenting on some of the personalities elected by the NPP, including individuals linked to the party’s former “Invisible Forces” security structures, Gbande warned against political intimidation.
“If the NPP believes violence is the path back to power, the NDC should not be underestimated,” he said.
Gbande’s statements ultimately suggest that while the NDC is monitoring developments within the opposition party, its main concern remains preserving unity and managing its own affairs ahead of the 2028 elections.
