Ibrahim Tanko (L) and Godwin Attram (R)
Medeama SC head coach Ibrahim Tanko and Black Stars assistant coach Godwin Attram have emerged as two of the names being considered to take charge of Ghana’s senior national team on an interim basis.
According to sources, the two coaches are among the options being assessed as the Ghana Football Association (GFA) looks for a temporary solution ahead of the Black Stars’ two 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Somalia in November 2026.
The move comes after Carlos Queiroz’s departure following Ghana’s disastrous start to the qualifying campaign, with the Portuguese coach leaving after defeats to Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia.
Tanko brings considerable experience within the national team setup.

The former Ghana international previously served as an assistant coach of the Black Stars and also managed the Black Meteors, the country’s U-23 side.
The 49-year-old is currently enjoying a spell with Medeama and had already expressed his willingness to coach the Black Stars if offered the opportunity and given the necessary support.
Attram, meanwhile, is already part of the Black Stars technical team, having been appointed assistant coach in September 2026, to replace Desmond Ofei, who moved his focus to the Black Meteors.
His familiarity with the current squad and the existing technical structure could make him another option for the GFA as preparations begin for the November fixtures.
The Black Stars currently sit bottom of Group C without a point after losing 2-0 to Côte d’Ivoire and 4-2 to The Gambia.
A five-member committee led by former GFA vice-president Fred Pappoe has been tasked with finding a substantive replacement for Queiroz.
