President John Dramani Mahama has pointed to Nestlé Ghana’s major expansion of its Tema factory as evidence of his government’s 24-hour economy agenda taking shape, as the company prepares to more than double its evaporated milk production capacity.

Speaking at the commissioning of Nestlé Ghana Limited’s expanded production line at its Tema factory on Thursday, October 8, 2026, President Mahama said the investment was a practical demonstration of Ghana’s drive to produce more locally, create jobs and reduce dependence on imported finished products.

“This is a powerful demonstration of the 24-hour economy in action,” President Mahama said.

The expansion replaces a production line that had been in operation for more than 30 years and increases Nestlé Ghana’s annual production capacity from about 12,960 tonnes to nearly 30,000 tonnes.

President Mahama said the expanded facility would also ensure that key stages of milk processing, including filling, homogenisation, sterilisation and packaging, are carried out locally by Ghanaian workers.

He said the development fits into the broader objective of positioning Ghana as a production hub capable of meeting domestic demand while increasing its capacity to export.

The commissioning comes as government touts a significant rise in foreign investment into the country.

Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, disclosed that Ghana’s foreign direct investment inflows jumped from US$652 million in 2024 to US$2.62 billion in 2025.

She said the sharp increase was a sign of growing investor confidence in Ghana and pointed to manufacturing as a major beneficiary of the renewed interest.

According to the Minister, manufacturing recorded 99 new investment projects in 2025, the highest among the major sectors, surpassing mining, oil and gas, and general trade.

She attributed the development to efforts by the Mahama administration to make Ghana a more open and attractive destination for businesses and investors.

The Nestlé expansion, therefore, adds to government’s push for increased domestic production and local value addition, with the company’s Tema facility now positioned to significantly increase the volume of evaporated milk produced in Ghana.

For President Mahama, the investment offers a concrete example of what the 24-hour economy is intended to achieve: more production, more industrial activity, and more value being created locally.
