Second Vice-Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, has denied claims that he asked Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa to allow him to retain his service passport.

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, on October 14, 2026, he explained that his only request to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was for assistance to transfer existing visas from his former service passport to his ordinary passport.

He questioned how he, as an opposition party executive could exert undue pressure on the minister to grant him an exemption.

“How can an MP exert undue pressure on a minister? It doesn’t even make sense. What locus do I have as an opposition National Organiser?” he asked.

Nana B said he made the request in March 2025 when he was preparing for a trip and needed assistance transferring his visas.

How Bosome Freho MP allegedly tried to get Nana B to retain service passport

According to him, the Member of Parliament for Bosome Freho, who serves on Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, informed him that he had contacted Ablakwa to help facilitate the transfer.

He said when the MP visited the minister, Ablakwa was in a meeting, and the MP had to wait for him.

Nana B said the minister subsequently requested that the matter be formalised in a letter addressed to the Head of Legal at the Ministry.

However, he said he abandoned the request because he considered the process too bureaucratic.

“I was going on the trip with my normal passport. Asafo-Agyei informed me that he had called Okudzeto to help me transfer my visas,” he said.

He added that the request was not intended to enable him to retain his service passport, questioning why the issue had resurfaced at this time.

“Why would I want to retain a service passport?” he asked.

His comments follow allegations by the Majority Caucus on Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee that the Bosome Freho MP attempted to pressure Ablakwa into allowing Nana B to retain his service passport.

According to the Majority, the MP and Nana B allegedly sought a special exemption for the NPP executive to continue using the passport despite a presidential directive requiring former officeholders to surrender their diplomatic and service passports.
