Akosua Manu is Advisor on Gender and Social Protection to Dr Bawumia
Akosua Manu, Advisor on Gender and Social Protection to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2028 presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has questioned the Gender Minister’s response to cases involving women and children, calling for equal concern for all those who need state protection.
In a social media post on October 16, 2026, she questioned why the minister was quick to reach out to the husband of a popular social media influencer following allegations involving child abuse but appeared not to show the same urgency in other cases.
“The Minister for Gender was quick to reach out to the husband of a popular influencer following allegations involving the abuse of a child. One would expect that same urgency and empathy to extend to every woman and child who needs the protection of the state,” she said.
Manu also raised concerns about the children of Salomey Awiti, whose mother was reportedly taken from her home and detained in Accra for almost three weeks.
She questioned whether the emotional and psychological impact of the incident on the children had been considered by the relevant authorities.
“Unfortunately, we did not see that same concern for the children of Salomey Awiti, whose mother was taken from her home and detained in Accra for almost three weeks. I wonder if anyone in authority stopped to consider the emotional and psychological toll on those children,” she said.
The NPP gender and social protection advisor further questioned what steps the Gender Minister had taken in response to rape allegations involving the headmaster of Obuasi Senior High School.

She noted that the headmaster was also reportedly a constituency secretary seeking to become a constituency chairman and called attention to the need for the minister’s response to the allegations to be clarified.
“I am equally curious about what steps the Gender Minister has taken regarding the disturbing allegations of rape involving the headmaster of Obuasi SHS, who is also reportedly a constituency secretary aspiring to become chairman,” she added.
