The Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Alhaji Yusif Sulemana, has said Ghana is working towards strengthening economic cooperation with other countries to promote cross-border investments and enable nations to benefit from one another’s resources.

Speaking at the Mining in Motion Summit in Accra on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, he said the government was developing policies to facilitate the movement of capital between Ghana and other jurisdictions while ensuring that investments support the country’s economic priorities.

Alhaji Sulemana explained that when economic policies are not properly coordinated, it becomes difficult for governments to monitor how funds are utilised outside their jurisdictions.

He said Ghana was therefore pursuing measures to facilitate cross-border capital flows to support investment activities.

“When we have policies that stand alone, it becomes difficult for me to monitor and control how these funds are utilised in other jurisdictions,” he said.

He added that such arrangements would also create opportunities for foreign capital and resources needed by Ghana to enter the country, allowing all parties to benefit from their investments.

According to him, the legal framework permits such transactions, although the government is currently prioritising domestic investment.

“The law allows that, but for now, we are focusing on domestic investment and the critical areas that we want to address,” Alhaji Sulemana stated.

The deputy minister also identified the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) as an opportunity to strengthen economic ties among African countries and create a larger market for businesses and investors.

He said the government recognised the importance of regional cooperation and had incorporated such considerations into its policy reforms.

Alhaji Sulemana added that Ghana would continue to encourage partnerships with neighbouring countries to promote investment and ensure that participating economies benefit from shared opportunities.

He noted that stronger cooperation could help countries access resources and investment opportunities that might not be readily available within their borders.

“Going into the future, we are going to encourage and ensure that there is that kind of cooperation where we are benefiting from each other,” he said.
