Was the Hon. Mavis Nkansah-Boadu also informed and invited to the Litany of Events leading to his instalment?
Besides, chieftancy issues per the constitution, are parallel jurisdictions to political issues. The Hon. MP is one of his own; including the school children participating in the sporting event. Additionally, the MP is a product of the people’s’ voices and representative and of the constituency. Where does chieftainship come in here. I think, as a chief, gazetted, he should invite her and advise her as a a daughter and advice on proper procedural channels of communication, otherwise, the optics beggars a belief.

Even, if you are the Omanhene or Otumfuo and an MP offends you by disrespecting you in any way, you simply address the problem by either sending for them or sending your elders to go and address the issue.
HERE IS THE PROBLEM:
When you declare an OUTRIGHT BAN on your Member of Parliament, you are raising a national crisis because the MP has a constitutional mandate to the people who elected them.
Secondly, parliamentary laws bags them to discharge their duties…

While traditional chiefs in Ghana hold profound cultural and customary authority, they do not possess legislative or criminal enforcement powers that override the national constitution. Recent disputes in Ghana have highlighted cases where traditional councils attempted to "ban" Members of Parliament (MPs) or candidates from holding events or campaigning due to alleged disrespect (such as the cases involving the Agonamanhene in October 2026 or the Nkusukum Traditional Council). Legally speaking, these decrees are void and unenforceable under statutory law.

Here is exactly how the law handles these two questions:

1. Is the traditional ban on an MP legal?

No. A decree or directive by a chief banning an MP (or any individual) from holding a social activity, campaigning, or entering a constituency violates multiple provisions of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana:
• Freedom of Assembly: Article 21(1)(d) guarantees all Ghanaian citizens the right to freedom of assembly and freedom to take part in processions or demonstrations. A chief cannot suspend a citizen’s constitutional liberties.
• Freedom of Movement: Article 21(1)(g) grants every citizen the right to move freely throughout Ghana and reside anywhere they choose. Legally, the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) and Ghanaian courts consider traditional banishment or spatial restrictions to be a violation of this right and a criminal act.
• No Power to Compel or Punish: In the landmark Supreme Court case Nana Adjei Ampofo v. Attorney General & Anor (2011), the court ruled that chiefs do not have the power of civil or criminal summons. If a chief cannot legally force a citizen to attend a palace meeting, they certainly cannot impose a punitive ban restricting a citizen's public activities.

2. Can the police enforce a chief's directive?

Absolutely not. The Ghana Police Service is a creature of state law governed by the Constitution and the Police Service Act.
• Chain of Command: The police take instructions only from their formal institutional chain of command (headed by the Inspector General of Police under the oversight of the Interior Ministry and the Police Council). They cannot take legal operational commands from a traditional ruler.
• The Public Order Act (1994): The regulation of public assemblies and social activities in public spaces is strictly controlled by state legislation. If an MP wants to hold a social activity, they are legally required to notify the police (not the chief) at least 5 days in advance under the Public Order Act. Only the police can request a postponement or modification, and even then, only on specific grounds of public safety, which they must defend in a court of law.
• Enforcing an Illegal Order: If the police were to assist a chief in enforcing a traditional ban against an MP, the police officers involved would be acting unlawfully, violating the MP's constitutional rights, and exposing themselves or the state to civil lawsuits.

Traditional Custom vs. State Law

When chiefs issue these types of bans, they are invoking customary or spiritual sanctions (such as pouring libation or invoking ancestral stools) rather than statutory state law. While these actions carry heavy social and political weight within the local community—often creating a tense environment for politicians—they carry zero weight in a legal court or within formal state enforcement mechanisms
