Some of the structures destroyed by the police
The Ashaiman District Police Command has demolished several wooden structures at Fitter Lane, believed to have served as hideouts for suspected criminals and centres for drug-related activities.
The operation, sanctioned by the Ashaiman Municipal Security Council (MUSEC), forms part of efforts to clamp down on criminal activities and improve security in the area.
The Ashaiman Municipal Chief Executive, Freeman Tsekpo, has endorsed the exercise, warning that similar operations will be extended to other suspected criminal hideouts across the municipality.
The Ashaiman District Police Command has intensified its crackdown on suspected criminal activities at Fitter Lane, a suburb of Ashaiman in the Greater Accra Region.
The operation, carried out over the weekend, targeted several wooden structures believed to have been used as hideouts by suspected criminals and as centres for drug-related activities.
Fitter Lane, which is also home to informal workers, including scrap dealers, has reportedly come under increased police surveillance following concerns over suspected criminal activities in the area.
During the exercise, several wooden structures were demolished and set ablaze in an effort to eliminate suspected criminal hideouts and restore security to the neighbourhood.
Briefing journalists after the operation, the Ashaiman District Police Commander, DSP Orlando Joseph Adzokpa, justified the exercise, stressing the command's determination to clamp down on criminal activities and drug peddling in the area.
The demolition has, however, raised concerns about its potential impact on individuals who depend on the area for shelter and their daily livelihoods.
Despite these concerns, the Ashaiman Municipal Chief Executive, Freeman Tsekpo, has thrown his weight behind the police operation, describing it as part of broader efforts to strengthen security and improve sanitation across the municipality.

Tsekpo explained that the assembly intends to reclaim the affected area and put it to more productive use.
He further indicated that similar operations would be extended to other locations identified as suspected criminal hideouts within the municipality.
The police and municipal authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to tackling suspected criminal activities, drug peddling and other social vices in Ashaiman.
