Parts of the Breaking Yorke Church building at Klagon-Lashibi have reportedly collapsed on eight people who were offloading cement at the site.

The incident occurred on October 28, 2026, with residents reporting that the workers were carrying out construction activities when the structure gave way.

According to a resident, the workers were offloading cement from a truck when parts of the building collapsed on them.

Reports indicate that two injured victims have been rushed to the hospital, while officers of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) are at the scene assessing the situation.

Some residents fear that additional victims may be trapped beneath the collapsed structure, prompting calls for urgent rescue efforts.

A witness who spoke about the incident said the workers were offloading cement onto the building when the structure collapsed.

The witness also raised concerns about the construction of the building, particularly the pillars supporting the structure.

According to the account, the workers were placing cement on the upper section of the building when the incident occurred.

The witness further indicated that some of the victims had been taken to the hospital, but the whereabouts of the others remained uncertain.

โ€œThey say they carried two people, but the eight people were there. So right now, there is a wooden structure there. They have carried some people over there too. The rest, we don't know whether they are under the wooden structure,โ€ the witness said.

The witness added that officers of the Ghana National Fire Service were at the church as rescue efforts continued.

As of the time of filing this report, the exact number of people trapped beneath the collapsed structure and the cause of the incident remain unclear.
