Lawmakers have praised the strategic partnership between indigenous firm First Sky Limited and the Bui Power Authority following the successful construction of a 50-megawatt solar power station at Galgu in the Yendi Municipality.
Members of Parliament’s Select Committee on Energy and Mines, alongside media personnel and key industry stakeholders, conducted a site inspection of the 50MW Solar Photovoltaic generating station on Monday to evaluate its operational progress and implementation status.
Leading the delegation, the Chairman of the Committee and Member of Parliament for Ho West, Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, expressed profound satisfaction with the reliance on local human capital.
He noted that the seamless execution of the facility by a Ghanaian workforce challenges the long-held tradition of relying on foreign contractors for critical national infrastructure.
“If we have credible and indigenous Ghanaians who can come up with projects of this nature, I don’t see why Ghana cannot move forward instead of giving projects to foreigners to do for us,” Bedzrah stated during the tour.
The inspection formed part of the parliamentary committee’s constitutional oversight duties across the energy and petroleum sectors.
Bedzrah applauded both the Bui Power Authority and First Sky Limited, a subsidiary of the First Sky Group, for successfully securing the required capital through their financial partners to bring the renewable energy installation to life.
Highlighting the strategic value of the project, the Ho West lawmaker emphasized that the facility will significantly stabilize electricity supply across the northern territory while advancing national goals to diversify the energy landscape.
He advocated for deliberate, expanded investments in solar technology, pointing out that alternative power sources have become essential to offset the operational vulnerabilities facing hydroelectric generation.
Bedzrah further urged local authorities and facility managers to implement stringent security measures around the site to safeguard the delicate installations against damage from stray livestock.
