The truth is that people don't go to the stadium to watch football KICKERS. People go to the stadium to watch football PLAYERS.
And football PLAYERS are naturally gifted and talented. Football KICKERS are those who are not naturally gifted and talented but have learnt how to kick the ball, how to shoot, how to head, how to cross, how to run with the ball, etc.
And it is football PLAYERS who are naturally gifted and talented who draw crowd to the stadium. Football KICKERS don't attract people.
In those days, the coaches, managers, club owners, from colts(currently academies) to the premier division intentionally looked for and select naturally gifted and talented footballers to play for the teams.
Nowadays, because there is money in football, all manner of individuals who are mostly not naturally gifted and talented, want to become professional footballers, and most of them pay their way through to be signed by the teams.
The truth is too many of the players we have in our league are not football players but football KICKERS.
Until we go back to what we we were doing, how we were doing it, it will become worse.
