Emma Brian, the Good Samaritan who found 15-year-old Ghanaian teenager Javits Frimpong after he was shot in the Bronx, New York, has recounted the emotional moments he spent with the teenager before help arrived.

Speaking at a memorial held in honour of the deceased teenager on November 5, 2026, Brian said he found Javits lying on the ground when he turned a corner and immediately rushed to help after noticing that he was bleeding.

He said he applied pressure to the wound in an attempt to stop the bleeding and stayed with the teenager until additional help arrived.

Recounting the incident, Brian said he was struck by how calmly Javits handled the situation despite being seriously injured.

“My name is Brian. When I came around that corner, I didn't expect to find something that would change my life. I saw Javits lying there, and my immediate thought was to run up and stop the bleeding once I saw he was bleeding,” he said.

Brian said he did his best to keep the teenager alive and wanted his family to know how courageous he was during those difficult moments.

“And I put pressure on the wound, did my best to stop the bleeding, and basically just stayed with him till someone was there and, you know, besides that point, the main thing that I wanted to get out and I wanted his family to know was that he was extremely brave throughout the whole thing,” he recounted.

He added that Javits told him his name when he asked and did not panic or break down despite the pain and circumstances.

“I would have been crying my eyes out like a little girl if I got shot and he wasn't doing none of that. You know, he told me his name when I asked him his name and, you know, besides that, he was just extremely brave throughout the whole thing,” Brian said.

Javits was fatally shot on October 29, 2026, by three teenagers who have since been declared wanted by the New York Police Department (NYPD).
