Bernard Tekpetey plays for Ludogorets Razgrad
The Ghanaian footballer Bernard Tekpetey has claimed that some football officials are deliberately trying to keep him out of the Black Stars.
He said he had previously been called up to represent the country and performed well enough to prove his worth and earn further invitations.
However, he has not received another call-up, a situation he finds baffling.
The Ludogorets Razgrad player expressed shock that he was overlooked for a national team invitation despite recording impressive goal contributions.
“Anyway, when I came, I came to prove to Ghanaians that I could do it. So why didn’t they call me after that? I have been consistent after the national team. I’ve been consistent. So after the national team, I went to Paderborn. I had the best season ever, scoring how many goals? 10 goals, eight assists or something. And I still couldn’t find a way to come back to the national team.
“So you could understand, like, the national team form of different organisations or different mentality. I’m not even going to talk about attaching somebody to it, but per their call-up and how they are critical of how they are calling players, it’s up to them,” he said in a video shared on social media.
Tekpetey further said the situation becomes even more frustrating when players he believes he has outperformed are selected for the national team instead.
“Just imagine, let’s say you’re playing in Europe, you’re playing in the Champions League or Europa League, you are scoring, you are making assists, and all of a sudden the national team comes up and they don’t call you.
“And then they go, they go to call somebody from Slovakia. All due respect, they go and call somebody from Slovakia, Cyprus, or the Czech Republic to come to play ahead of you, even with zero goals, with zero assists, how will you feel? You will feel very bad. But you know, sometimes you just have to close your eyes because you are not playing for the national team,” he said.
