I am against illegal mining and the wanton destruction of the environment whether by foreigners or Ghanaians. I believe that is the government policy and the policy globally!!The problem must be tackled in its entirety and not from a narrow angle of singling out a particular group. Moreover, you forget that foreigners do not usurp the land. And that local authorities cannot claim to be impotent in the face of abuse, wherever it may come from!It is the idea that central government must be the one to act in all cases that I find unproductive for our evolving democracy.

This is what is called a dysfunctional nation, despite the existence of elected leaders. We pride ourself as being the gateway to Africa, but the reality in Ghana is nothing to write home about. If the mining activities by the Chinese is illegal as it's been described, the simple solution is to allow the law to take its course. In a democratic society, there is no place for vigillantism and mob rule. Unfortunately, enforcing the law is one of the major deficiencies in Ghana. We have elected leaders to represent their constituents. So, citizens can't do much about the issue. What we want is leaders who really care about Ghana and won't sell their souls for their personal gratification. Hopefully, the new government will take a good look at this situation and address it.

LOUSY LEADERSHIP IS THE REASON. UNLESS THE GHANAIANS THINK OF HOLDING THE LEADERS' ACCOUNTABLE, THEY WILL CONTINUE TO TAKE GHANAIANS FOR A RIDE.
