Why not invite the British back to rule us then, with the chiefs in charge at the local levels? Yes, I'd be the first to now boast that the families of some of us who ruled present Ghana with the British during the 60 years plus of the proper colonial era had done several times better than the ordinary politicians and soldiers who have ruled Ghana since 1957! Ghana has just recovered to the GNP level of 1960, where the country plummeted to since the 1970s. So Dag, some of us know of better ways to usher Ghana to greater heights. One of that is saving Ghanaians from the excessive superstition and ignorance that your kind foster in the country.

And I certainly even wouldn't want myself in my traditional capacity to rule Ghana along the same old, colonial lines. That's why I had written at length about reforming our mode of governance, including reforming chieftaincy, land reforms and use, etc. to reflect my modern, left of centre principles.

And we certainly can't be handing out contracts along party lines, without recourse to proper tendering and merit of the bidder to perform! We should rather thrive to build out a merit system, with open and transparent bidding for contracts, unlike what the NPP did when in office. Where were you then, Dag, when many people with contracts already signed, were having their contracts terminated, leading to the gargantuan judgement debts being paid?

A cousin of mine was a victim, having the UNESCO supported IT project for secondary schools abrogated, just so that the chosen cronies of the NPP robber barons could take over the project! UNESCO refused to play ball and that was the end of a laudable project which had already started under the NDC in the late '90s. Why reward such brigands now?

Take your NPP grabbing mentality elsewhere, Dag. You are just another charlatan and conman deceiving ignorant Ghanaians. Did you learn during your medical school studies that humans were created by a god 6000 years ago?

Are the parties there to better the lot of entire Ghanaians or for the sake of their own pockets?

Mister Preacher man, better tell these crooks and knaves that if they think are not being paid well or awarded enough contracts so that you can get your share as tithe to look elsewhere. The parliament is the property of Ghanaians therefore the disgruntle ones or party are in the wrong place to be. They should go to the private sector and justify their bidding and I bet you the competition is stiff.

How can a pastor plead for such an ungodly behaviour to happen in Ghana?

You loose credibility when you point only to the bad deeds of the NPP. That is very easy to do though since I did the same in several posting on my personal facebook page. In academia, one must present arguments in a fair manner before using all other strong points to dis credit one side. By reading ur piece, all i got from it is, NPP is corrupt, Dag is ignorant and NDC knows the right thing to do??? please correct me if I got it it wrong. I personally thing the pastor's points reflect reality Ghana. Yes he may be speaking out now because he is a suporter of NPP and fears his business may under perform as a result of NDC's win. None the less, the truth remains, business contracts awarded by governments does not go through a fair bidding process, the likelihood of roads and schools left unfinised is very high (because NDC is in power), like the United states Affirmative Right rule, sometimes institutions need quotas if the system is not working itself out.

WHy are you recommending the NPP and not the others.
Generally, the pipeline is DRY for ALl and sundry ( not NPP alone) and the OIL revenue is not flowing or trickling through it properly.

By the way, if the NPP gets 30%, what proportion should the other parties (NDC, PNP, CPP, PNC, etc.) get? The pastor could have been objective in his reasoning. Bishop Dag Heward-Mills, leader of the Lighthouse Chapel International (LCI) says he sees no difference between the National Democratic Congress (NDC)-led government and that of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as far as the fight against corruption is concerned.
The leader of a thriving charismatic church with over 1200 branches in 60 countries said both the NDC and the NPP have woefully failed to meet the expectations of Ghanaians and that the only reason for voting for one against the other is to prevent them from becoming overly corrupt by staying in government for too long.
“Corruption and the failure to provide the basic needs and infrastructure for Ghanaians to get out of poverty are the main common features of both parties and that is what Ghanaians should be focusing on in order to prevent one of them from ruling for longer than necessary.
No matter which of the two is in power we can’t expect any marked differences in our lives,” Heward-Mills noted during a sermon to mark the 50th Anniversary of the University of Ghana Medical School last week.
He noted that when the NPP was in power, there were wild stories of corruption in government, and that created the impression that the folks in NDC were angels; but over the past four years that the NDC has been in power, there have been very wild stories of corruption about the NDC too.
Bishop Heward-Mills noted that both the NPP and NDC have demonstrated gross incompetence in the area of meeting the basic needs of Ghanaians such water, electricity, shelter and even food, and they have both failed to create the environment for wealth creation in the country.
The Lighthouse leader is talking politics at a time his contemporary from the International Central Gospel Church, Pastor Mensah Otabil, has come under public scrutiny over statements he made on free education.
But Bishop Heward-Mills said the fact that he is talking politics does not mean his church should be tagged with a political party. “I have done two polls in my church, I realized the church is sometimes 50% + one for NPP, and on other occasions 50% + one for NDC – so no one can say we belong to one political party,” he said.
The Bishop however did not tell what necessitated the internal poll in his church and when it was conducted.
His church has millions of loyal members whose decisions are influenced by his teachings and it is most likely what he says would influence their decisions at the December 7 polls- an obvious neck-to-neck race between Nana Akufo Addo, presidential candidate of the NPP and John Dramani Mahama, President and candidate of the NDC.

The founder and leader of Lighthouse Chapel International, Bishop Dag Heward-Mills, has described the two leading parties in the country, NDC and NPP are ‘wicked unbelievers’ who do not deserve to lead the country for long.
According to Bishop Heward-Mills, it would be wrong to allow the parties to be at the helm of Ghana’s development for too long because there was very little difference between them, saying ‘moko aya ni moko aba’, let’s continue the musical chairs.’

I am not naive to assume that politics does not play a role in the award of state contracts. Even in the west, state contracts are awarded to companies that are sympathetic to the party in government. However, party affiliation is not part of the criteria for the award of contract. The criteria should exclude political affiliation and be based on the ability of the contractor to execute the work. That is, competency, financial viability of the contractor, previous experience, etc. What this pastor is suggesting is dangerous.

In the West, businesses get contracts on merit (good, and value for money) as well as quality. In Ghana and certain parts of the world, they are awarded, based on who you know, what Party you belong to, etc. This has resulted in contracts being offered to incompetent people, who go on to inflate prices and then go on to do shabby work. This goes for BOTH main parties, and no doubt, the other small Parties would do the same if they had the chance.

Whatever got us into this mess, we must try and get out of it.

Instead of appreciating what the Pastor is offering, as a good start, look at the rubbish you put in this forum.

If you have nothing sensible to say, give others the chance to write and then you might learn something.

He had both blasted and praised Rawlings, Kuffour and our late president. I was there and the message he preached was Faithfulness and loyalty, so get your faces out of your asses before you talk trash about him. Just go listen to the message and comeback with facts before you guys start to talk like fools.
By the way if you care to know, i am a physician and Dag was my mate, and what he has built, how many people can do it, from humble beginings, he has built a very mega church from nothing, and sacrificed a lot for this to happen. He was among the top medical students during our time. And if you care know, none of his mates are still in the country. We all left to American but he stayed because he knew God had called him into the ministry. Go research about him from UGMS and see for yourself. One that has left a major road between Accra and Kumasi unfinished and no sign of it being completed. The one that actually decide whether you go to heaven or hell(unless u do not believe in God like myself) because it has given some education and others a life of hardship(and i believe better off people are "more likely" to live by the rules of the bible). It is obvious our institutions are incapable of dealing with it now, at least he's telling the truth, and as much as that truth in itself self serving, it is also the truth. Ghana needs institutional changes, Sometimes quotas are needed to meet goals, the only beneficiary out of it all is Ghana.

Do you think gorvernment business is all about contracts? NDC has always created equal opportunities for the people of Ghana. In 2008 when the NDC won the elections nobody including known officials of the NPP was made to proceed on leave. The NPP did the opposite in 2000 when they assume the administration of the country. I hope the Bishop was in the country at that time. What did he say?

Secondly, Bishop Dag Heward Mill's ministry is a multi million dollar ministry and if you are able to govern a multinational, multimillion dollar ministry so effectively, he must certainly be doing something right and as such, his 2cents to the government could be taken as coming from someone with experience. Thirdly, do not speak against things that you have no understanding of. missionaries are not made to leave their jobs under duress. Everyone makes their own decision on what they want to give their lives for.

bidded and whoever is the best bidder
wins the contract. You don't win because you affiliate with any party.
