What knowledge do people who go into
journalism have in chemistry , or biochemistry.It is true that reagents used for extraction and testing of DNA whose results must be precise should not be compromised.But did Paa Kwesi Ndoum go for DNA testing.What most lame men including journalist do not know about reagents is that the Expiration date on most reagents is for commercial purpose and the producers do so to ensure continuity of their production. How on earth can sodium chloride common salt or the one named in this article pottassium oxide be rendered useless after afew months after the expiration date. The potency of any reagent is the determinant fact about its use. Another example could be a papsmear kit with an expiration date.This kit consists of a brush, a plastic or wooden spatula and a glass slide. How can these items expire when they are just instruments. There is a lot of wastage in the labs and institutions in America and the advance countries and we should not follow them blindly. We don't have the resources they have. The journalists and readers here should know that every test run is run against controls and that failed controls will render the test invalid. No one gives invalid results. Besides controls and standards there are also quality control methods and quality assuarance procedures in place. The potency of the reagents matters more than the date on the bottle

The Ghana case must not be Standard Operating Practice as it will have costs too. The manufacturers
also expect users of their products to do so responsibly; Ghanaian Doctors and hospitals are resposible for handling chemical and drug stocks under their watch. The expiration dates are established for legal reasons and not for marketing defective products. I agree with comments by Guy.

Furthermore, the examinations that were done on Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom did not require reagents to invalidate his results. Please lets get serious. However, let me congratulate you for bring this up so the the institution could determine the cause of expiry whether it was due to over stocking of under utilization of such reagents.

I wonder how many lives might have been needlessly lost because of these false tests. If the account is true, and some folks did really die for having been given tests with these drugs that might have been largely inefficacious, why can't the victims' survivors sue the Hospital and individuals directly in charge of Procurement and application of the drugs?

I really wish some of these Corrupt and insensitive megalomaniacal heads of our Institutions could be stripped down into abject poverty with Court Damages; it would teach them some lessons if they have to live the rest of their lives "penniless and certificateless".
