  independence. Women and especially older women are excluded from gains of political freedom and everything tied to modernisation.The Government of Ghana must have an agenda that focus on Seniors; a social welfare program for seniors participation.

  illiteracy is not only high with women ,it,s throughout the country that,s why people still vote for ndc,the useless and visionless party where people has a minimum wage of 50 gh cedis a month and buys a bottle of guinness for 3 gh cedis and pays a travelling cost of 25 gh cedis for 150 miles from kumasi to accra.ghana is even more expensive than uk where a bottle of guinness is one pound and glasgow to london is 13 pounds for 414 miles,comparatively is ghana a good country?to hell with stupid john thief mahama.

  It is really said to read about such a pathetic situation. I still do not understand why woman voted for a party that does not understand that, it is only education that could change the stygian conditions of average person in Ghana. How can you develop as nation with such a behemoth percent of uneducated women? And yet, Ghanaians do not want FREE EDUCATION FOR ALL. I don't care which political party that will stand for this ideology, and I will support it. We have to be objective about this nefarious perpetual trampling on women education. Free education can do a lot for Ghana.

  The suppression of the HND has led to the suppression of women in Ghana. This is because certain programs and courses offered only at the polytechnics are patronised mostly by women. Talk of Secretarial Studies, Catering and Hotel Management, Food Technology, Marketing, Auto Mechanics, etc always have majority of their students to be women. Giving recognition to the HND as it deserves will go a long way to encourage a lot of women to acquire tertiary education that is relevant to our development aspiration since polytechnic education is the only form of tertiary education in Ghana which is easily accessible in all the 10 regions of the country. Unfortunately for us as a country the National Accreditation Board(NAB) is doing everything possible to kill the HND and polytechnic education and this is discouraging a lot of women from acquiring tertiary education. Why should a woman attend a polytechnic for 3years, do national service for a year, go back to the university for 4years before she will be qualified for a postgraduate studies. This is surely harmful to women education and future generations and I think we must address this issue because it is directly affecting our development negatively. Why would the Brits offer full postgraduate scholarship to our HND holders from Ghana( visit www.britishcouncil.org) and yet we in Ghana say the HND cert is a toilet paper. The Coventry University is now offering MSc to HND holders in Ghana for 5000 British pounds, something our universities could offer for less than 1000pounds but they say no. This is how far our useless universties have brought us.

  Where are the women activists to comment on this brilliant FAO report that seeks to empower women at the rural level. I can understand why they are mute. It is because the FAO report has implicitly promoted the HND and polytechnic education. Everybody can now see the hypocrisy of our women activists. In fact they are all university graduates who are looking for short cut to the top and so don't care about what ever means they can use. They did it in Gen Acheampong's time using sexual favors to receive VW Golf cars. Today they have metamorphosed into women activists. It is always easy to identify them in public. They always wear fuzzy cheeks and pot bellies which is a clear manifestation of their gluttony. They are the descendants of slave raiders and traders who have now found the universities as fertile grounds to promote elitism. Most of them waste their energies in their hay days and if old age is catching up with them they now turn to become women evangelists. This is how far our useless university education has brought us.

  USMAN it is unfortunate that the lens in which you address this issue is so blaired. As one of the writers stated,how do you define education? that alone is debatable. our problems in Ghana are numerous as you well know. University graduates are unemployed. To tackle the gender inequity, one has to analyse it from various angles. Self sufficiency, I believe is the key. This includes programs to enhance the life of women, and so many more.

  Imagine a highly educated woman in the likes of Ursula Owusu threatening an entire country with "all die-be-die" and "there will be Afganistan" if one OLD man cannot fufil his insatiable quest to become president?
  
  Instead of Ursula leading education efforts for women through example as well as facilitating forums for women education, she is seen always shouting some political threat to intimidate populace.
  
  Now, the same woman threatening the populace is going to participate in making laws to benefit them? Oh I forget, she is part of the Minority and they will be boycotting parliamentary activities..hahaha
  
  Well, all I can say is Thank God, Ursula would not be turning the August parliament House of Ghana into Afganistan- I hope their boycott lasts for the next 4 years WITHOUT PAY/BENEFITS and after that, she is voted out..Better yet, a petition should be sent to remove the likes of her, if they choose mischief over real productivity!
