A National Democratic Congress (NDC) stalwart, Dr. Ekwow Spio Garbrah has taken a swipe at the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) describing it as a group with a problem of anger management.

According to him, the post-election conduct of the NPP and its supporters shows how awkward the leadership of the party has handled its anger.

The opposition NPP has rejected the results of the 2012 general elections declaring John Mahama as winner and has since petitioned the Supreme Court to invalidate the declaration of president Mahama as president-elect.

The party also boycotted the inaugural ceremony of the president Mahama noting that attending the event will undermine its case in court.

However former president Kufuor who is also an elder of the NPP attended the swearing in though some party members wanted to prevent him.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s current affairs Talkshow Ekosii-Sen on Tuesday, Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah noted that the actions of the NPP leadership after the election show desperate attempts to divert the anger of the supporters of the party.

He asserted that the election was not rigged by the EC for the NDC as purported by the NPP but rather a face saving tactics by the party to calm nerves of its supporters.

“I think the NPP should know how to manage the anger of its supporters well because I can see it is lacking proper management of anger. When we go into psychology, we know that sometimes when something happens to a person or group like the NPP defeat, some may get depression, anger, retention among others so the reaction from the party is not strange. But I expected the party leadership to manage it well than what they are doing. It is not surprising that the supporters are pouncing on the leadership because they were assured that they won but at the long run it didn't turn so. So in order to save the leadership from shame, they are saying it was rigged which is not the case. These boycotts are attempts by the party to save the shame of losing the election. The party must go back and manage the anger well than these tactics” he stressed.

He compared the purported irregularities of the election to students writing examination in which some fail and others pass. “There are no elections without irregularities. If you have 26,000 students writing various examinations, definitely some will pass and others will fail. It is same as the elections, some of the electoral officers fail to put figures well, and others also fail to record the figures so these cannot amount to the election being rigged. The NPP argument of rigged election cannot stand”.

Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah noted that the EC can never have any ulterior motive against any political party because it is working for all Ghanaians. “ Isn't it the same EC which supervised elections since 2000 and NPP won twice, so how can we say it rigged this one in favor of NDC”.

On the issue of political appointments in the Mahama/Amissah Arthur administration, Dr. Spio Garbrah noted that the president must be given free hand to operate.

The acting president of the Dominion University College said though he hasn't been approached to take an appointment in the Mahama government, he is ever ready to serve his country if given the opportunity.

Government arrears include overdue payments to private contractors for road and non road projects wage arrears, arrears to statutory funds.

There are other contingent liabilities associated with state-owned enterprises (SOEs) debt owed to banks.

The stock of domestic arrears stood at GH¢1.8 billion at the end of 2008, based on information available at the time.

It is absolutely incredible to imagine what matter the brain cells of people bred in the Ashanti region are made of. The man Kuffuor sounds far more ignorant than Nkomea and the rest of the NPP idiots. How on earth can you determine with such bold assertion that the EC under Dr Afari Djan, actually rigged the elections in favor of John Mahama. Indeed the characteristics of a typical human being can be deceptive. These people do not understand simple logic, that you cannot win an election in a 10 region country, where most things are cut straight down ethnic lines. Secondly even in the NPP stronghold of the Ashanti Region, the non-Ashantis could very well out-number the actual indigenes, who without a shadow of doubt vote massively along tribal lines, the same tendency exists in the Northern and Volta Regions. Third but not least is that the other Akan groups of the various regions are not in full alliance with the Ashanti/Akyem Akan group. They should live and die smart about the true composition of Ghana!

The main question is, if the EC is so sure in what they are reporting, they must give the court room to operate and not advising it to close the case. This guy has something to hide and must be investigated.
3 Directors from the EC was arrested before the election for their corrupt practises. We have not heard anything from them or the court till date.

Also we all heard it in Radio and saw the ongoing on television. The late appearance of the police and soldiers, the the taking and run away of ballots papers by NDC functionaries in the north, the postponement of elections in certain areas in the country due to the fact that the verification mashines were not functioning and as a result lead to the changing of verification mashines. This and more lead the EC to prepare the following election days.

The EC must accept that he lacks organisational skills. The court will decide how to manage this process. The Allegations has made to the EC now it is time to bring all the data of the verification mashines including the ballot papers, etc. to the court to proof.

We want peace in our country!
We want the truth to be found out and to be told.

Even in the normal cases, the evidence on which the charge is being made is given to the defendant to study so that he can respond appropriately.If new evidence is to be produced in court, the court must satisfy itself that the evidence so produced is not materially different from all the other evidence unless that evidence was not something foreseen at the beginning of the trial.In our electoral case law, the petitioner files a petition with the court. The respondents including the EC will file a response to the petition. They then ask the court for the petitioner to produce the evidence he/she has so that they can use that as a basis to file their defence.The evidence can only be heard in court if the petitioner has provided it to the respondent(s). Mr Fiadzoe, treason is for attempting to overthrow a legally established gov't by unconstitutional means.Nana Addo has not legally been established as a ruling entity and therefore there can be no treason charge here. Please decent people read this forum so please don't just throw words about as if most of us here donot know our left from our right. NPP believe they have a case and are therefore in court. The EC believes through their processes and procedures that the NPP has no case and have also responded to the court. Remember the NPP did not summon the EC to court.It's the court that summoned the EC to appear before it. The fact that you are in court with whatever evidence you think is sacrosanct, the other party only has to disprove that your evidence is as watertight as it is. Now the case before the SC is not a criminal case where the burden of proof is beyond reasonable doubt, this will be based on the arithmetic and the balance of probabilities. What is the probability that all the alleged errors and/or irregularities only affected Nana Addo and benefited Mahama, what is the probability that the alleged errors/irregularities were not genuine errors across the country and therefore putting all together will change(or not) the electoral results. So please in this petition, the petitioner may end up being the respondent and the respondents may end being petitioners and that is the beauty of a Civil Case.

So based on your analysis, I presume when the respondent submits its response to the court and prays for the petitioner to provide evidence the court in its wisdom will allow some time for the petitioner to do so, right? Or the court requires the petitioner to provide the evidence INSTANTLY without which the case will be DISMISSED right away? If the former which I believe you and I do believe is the situation, can you explain why the EC made this statement we read to the court...."the EC maintained that "the petition is without merit,and accordingly, prayed the Supreme Court to 'dismiss it'? This presupposes the second scenario I outlined is actually what pertains in court. How then can an institution like the EC procure the services of a law firm that doesn't know basic law procedures? Sometimes we think we know TOO MUCH but rather come across as being more IGNORANT. Your anlysis on the treasonable charges were SPOT ON but everything else preceeding that with all due respect was just BALDERDASH!!!

NPP is right to go to court, Mahama should sack him and he face the law of the land. Why didnt he make sure all figures were correct before letting Mahama think the results were correct. He didnt only fail Mahama but the whole country. Mahama could have won if he counted it well.
They is need to go to court now because we all know now the elections was rigged from the horses mouth.

If this is the first admission of error by the defence , then, how many admissions of error should we expect after the plaintiffs have presented their case personally in court.

If the EC is not able to state categorically now that we have checked and reviewed all the original polling station statements and there were no election laws violated, then the NPP has an interesting case.

I really don't want to believe Afari Gyan and the EC would want to dent their hard won reputation that easily. It is time we as people learn to respect our institutions. It does not pay to denegrade them in our bid to assume political power. I just hope the NPP would not accuse the Supreme Court of bias should they loose this case. Truth is, it hurts to loose but hey only one person can be president at one time.

Remember how when you get an 'A' in a course, you boldly beat your chest and say 'I GOT AN 'A'! But when you get a 'D' or 'E' you quickly in an angry mood say 'THEY GAVE ME A 'D' or an 'E'.

the npp's claim that voting without verifications had taken place in certain polling stations need to be looked at carefully. verification at polling stations was procedural and in three phases. first a candidate was required to present his or her VOTER ID card for verification on the voter register. if the picture, the number and any other relevant data agreed with what is contained in the voter register then the candidate was allowed or taken to the next verification process:verifying voter's picture using the verification machine. at this stage if the machine displayed the voter's picture then he or she was allowed to go to the last process: verification by thumbprint. it was at this stage that the some of the machines had challenges. Now what we need to know is that if a person was allowed to vote having failed to meet the last process it cannot be taken that no verification took place. what could be a better case is where we have evidence of non registered voters actually voting or the manipulation of figures.
