Ghana, with its developmental problems, is commiting no crime in maintaining subsidies on fuel. Remember that fuel is a product whos price fluctuations in this country directly affects the prices of basic commodities.

To call for removal of subsidies on fuel in Ghana, is to be, in the least very irresponsible. Or, is it that you have millions of gallons "hoarded" somewhere that you want to sell at very high prices to recover losses made during the campaigning that saw the NPP loose its bid to win power in Ghana?

Whether the resources used as subsidy could be used else where or not, it does not matter but it currently indicates how sensitive the Mahama administration is to the plight of the ordinary Ghanaians who will be affected by the ripple effect of any undue increase of the price of fuel. Gabby if you have any meaningful and progressive suggestion wait for Nana Addo. Wouldn't it be stupid if Ghana has to import coacoa to feed our chocolate industries; wouldn't be stupid if Ghana has to import gold at a high price in order to make gold affordable for her citizens? And, again, wouldn't it be stupid if Ghana hsa to import timber to supply various sectors such as construction firms, carpenters, and many others. Why am I asking this questions? Simply because these things are produced in the countr; therefore, we should never have to import such commodities. These resources should not be export and then import back at high price for consumption. Why should the government export all the cruid oil extracted in Ghana, and then imporst cruid oil from international market at a high price just to subsidize it in order to make it affordable? Why? It sounds just like exporting such resources as coacoa, timber, gold etc. and then importing back the same material in its raw state to feed your own industry at a subsidized price - again, why? We should feed Tema Oil Refiery with cruid oil extracted in Ghana because that is the surest way to keep fuel prices down. Status quo must end in order to move the country forward.
