Pass legislation for sanitation as the first order of parliament to make it a national priority. It cost the nation to have a filty environment on the economic, health, tourism and social front. What is preventing the government from legislating and enforcing sanitation program. Ghana did not have this problem in the 1950's when it was primitive than now that we are so called middle class.

The dockyard men's room was always filthy because the workers never peed accurately to the drain. Every day the man who was in charge of sanitation at the dockyard would have to call in the cleaners to wipe off the mess inside the men's room.
After few months of bringing the toilet cleaners in, the budget was exceeding, bills piling up and the sanitation guy had to think of an alternative way to solve this daily problem in the men's room. So what he did was he called in a famous economist and explained to him the problem in the men's room.
The economist went away with this and after a couple of weeks came up with a possible solution to end this problem. He told the sanitation guy to paste little flies randomly into the drain and guaranteed this would work. The sanitation guy was surprised at his solution and he started to argue with the economist.
The next day, the sanitation guy came into the men's room only to find a clean healthy environment inside and that no one had peed outside the drain because everyone had been aiming at the flies in the drain

In the good old days when "tankase" will come and inspect our surroundings, these stinking cites do not exist.

We are now "civilized" yet, we love to live so close to garbage then blame "witches" when we get sick.

As an individual i have every right to ask my fellow to pick up some rubbish he left on the street..what if he does not there should be a 999 centre to call and report and actions should be taken..there is so much indiscipline in our system such that one will intentionally hit a duely elected road sign and after days, no one cares he goes back to move it as scrap...we need to sit up if we really want to develop our country..i must say our rural villages are more cleaner and neater than our cities..we should be schooled..noo too known matter

We find nothing wrong with Filth and Dirth. We only come to talk about it when very few people among us, who are more hygiene conscious,find there's something wrong with our environment.There's nothing wrong if some one, who knows, show you the way.
Ignorance can contribute to our woes that for sure.
Ability to enforce laws if any and institute punishment to those break the law to serve as deterrent to others, who have that potential in them, is the other side of the coin.
It was the order of the day in the Sixties, when sanitation Personal from the Town and City councils went round the cities and communities and in to households looking for hygienic anomalies, perpetrators are then made to face the law courts. We preach "SANKOFA" always so why can we go back for that system which made it possible that every body joins the queue? It's not going to be an easy task but we must start from somewhere.
Start placing dustbins all over the cities, it is very common in every clean city in the world.Where should people ease themselves outside their homes when the need be? Provision must be made for that.Owen to the illiteracy level in our mist, we have to try to educate the populace. No arrest can be made when no provision has been made for the people to do the right thing.

I totally agree with you. If we Ghanaians are not ready to change their attitude towards keeping our environment clean, even if we use all our oil and gas plus the Gold and Cocoa money we would still be in poor sanitation as we are in today. People will wake up early on Sunday and carry their rubbish form their homes and dump them in front of other people's houses and even into the open drainage then hurry up to go and bath and go to CHURCH to worship the Lord. You will see other sin their posh cars throw rubbish out of their windows.

It is not attitudinal but cultural and lack of effective institutions in Ghana that creates and perpetuates living in filth.
The very rich Ghanaians who have bought and built expensive homes in their so-called gated communities do have garbage trucks pick up their trash but these dump trucks dump them in the back yards of the poor. When and if a government should ever come into office in Ghana where members of the administrative team understands that Ghana can only move into the class of developed nations when requisite system infrastructure exists then foundations would be laid to start the journey into economic, employment, health and safety growth.
In Ghana we still develop large tracks of land when roads, utilities (water, electricity, telephone and cable) drainage and sewage are not yet on the table. Builders continue to make their own roads building individual homes, build without adherence to neither future road markings nor garbage disposal facilities and yet this spokesperson want us to believe this is attitudinal. When did a building inspector put a stop to any structure in Ghana? Have we forgotten what happened to the collapsed Mall? Ghana government agencies provide documentation showing corrective actions taken at each of those sites where work stoppage notices were issue by government?
It is absolutely the failure of government and its ineffective and bribe prone agencies that make simple things in Ghana seem attitudinal.
