The President John Dramani Mahama must now be holding a baited breadth, watching to see the NPP score a spectacular own goal. And who was to deliver on this presidential amusement than the man called Tsatsu!! Ooooh dear, boy O boy! What a clear sense of humour the president has.
I don’t believe there is anybody in Ghana today, happier than Tsatsu!! ‘Every dog has its day’ thus goeth the old saying, and I can plainly envision Tsatsu cracking his knuckles with alacrity, knowing all too well that the juiciest political payback time has finally arrived. And should the NPP untimely withdraw their law suit, Tsatsu would immediately lapse into the most disappointed feller in the land. Fact is, the man is simply relishing the opportunity to sink his fangs into the opulent flesh of his political adversaries, who hounded him for eight solid years, and finally left him within whiskers of his life in the Nsawam political cooler. He was, in all reality, saved by the bell tolled in Tain constituency, when the Late Daddy Mills secured the thinnest of all election victories to acquit Tsatsu from imminent oblivion. Never mind the presidential pardon; Tsatsu was never going to stay in that cooler anyway, win or lose. He had his own ideas of keeping out of it, if even it meant giving up the ghost!!
Fast forward to 2013 and, hey Presto! Tsatsu finds his rabid torturers now languishing in dire political doldrums and badly needing some legal attention for a cure. Clearly, political fortunes had come full circle, and what will Tsatsu do but to oblige them another round of the saga they erroneously perceived as over and done with. This has been the moment Tsatsu has been waiting for, and his whole body must now be quavering and twitching with glee to commence a new lesson for his former students who misconstrued legal acumen for legal gimmickry and callously experimented same on their former law lecturer. As it were, Tsatsu has finally gotten them all reigned in to be mesmerized with yet another dose of his legal wizardry. He would unveil all those lessons they missed at Legon whilst they were skivvying lessons to indulge themselves. But at long last, the proverbial game is up. They have offered the stick to be lashed with, and blimey, what a gargantuan lashing they shall receive – to the delight of the presidency.
Evidently, Tsatsu finds himself in the right job at the right time and in the right place. He would love nothing else better than tutoring his former students some extra-legal lessons at no further cost (other than copious gnashing of NPP sharp teeth), in the grandest of places, with the grandest of lesson topics and the grandest of audience the world over. I used to hate Tsatsu in the heady days of the PNDC, but now I clearly envy him. The man has been repentant and has given himself a makeover that has been so positive. If we all challenged ourselves in like manner, the world would be a better place. Meanwhile, I can’t wait to hear just what Tsatsa has in store for those NPP braggarts. I expect nothing short of the spectacular. Bring it on, Tsatsu! I missed you!!

We are told Tsatsu cited a number of cases to support his contention that the NDC be allowed to join the case after stating why the NDC should join. Did the NPP also cited a string of cases to justify why the NDC should not be allowed to join after stating that if the NDC is made to join it would delay the trial? Let us know. I have no doubt though that Tsatsu may won the admiration of the lawyers on the other side as well as the judges except that the judges might not express.
The NPP might have forgotten that there was a Tsatsu to meet in court and Tsatsu has obviously been given the opportunity to do what he loves best to do. Law students would obviously be taking notes but I wish Akuffo Addo had led his legal team for what would have been the clash of the titans in court.

The Communications Director of the NPP in the Tain Constituency, Charles Akowuah-Tuffuor is asking the party to get out of court and focus on the 2016 elections because their evidence is not enough to change the election results.

Mr. Akowuah-Tuffuor told Adom News NPP’s loss was largely because of the poor performance of its polling agents and other party officers on the grounds during the elections, adding that the party executives are only giving the members and supporters false hopes with their court action.

The NPP Flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, his running mate, Dr. Mamudu Bawumia and party Chairman Jake Otanka Obetsebi-Lamptey are in court challenging the 2012 presidential results.

The three have sued the Electoral Commission for allegedly supervising electoral irregularities, and sued President John Mahama for allegedly being the main beneficiary of those irregularities.

They have presented documents to support the alleged irregularities in some 38 constituencies, claiming that those hitches led to the addition of over 1.3million votes to the presidential results, most of which allegedly went in favour of President Mahama.

But Charles Akowuah-Tuffuor said his party leadership’s court action has no merit and it is a waste of everybody’s time because it lacks the substance to make any difference in the election results.

"They are only seeking the interest of one or two people in the party at the expense of the rank and file," he said.

He argued that the court action is doing more harm than good to lots of young NPP supporters, who have been given the false hope that Nana Addo will be president in the next two months, so they are sitting by and waiting for him to become president and give them jobs.

“I think we should accept the results and focus our energies on winning the 2016 elections so that the youth can use their skills for something better than sitting by and waiting,” he said.

The Tain NPP Communication Director also criticized party General Secretary Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie (Sir John) for rushing to hold a press conference without proper consultation, and telling the world NPP had won the elections even though vote counting was then not over.

Charles Akowuah-Tuffuor said moves like the one by the party’s General Secretary rather contributed to lack of vigilance that made the NDC win, because NPP officers on the ground relaxed after Sir John announced they had won.

But the Brong-Ahafo Regional Chairman of the NPP, Haruna Gafsiru said he is surprised at Akuako’s stance on the court case because majority of the party supporters believe there is merit in the NPP’s move.

He said Akowuah-Tuffuor is free to express himself as democracy allows, but he would have thought that he (Akowuah-Tuffuor) would have made his case to the hierarchy of the party instead of going public to condemn the court action.

Deputy Communication Director of the NPP, Sammy Awuku said Akowuah-Tuffuor is only one person and he does not speak for the millions of Ghanaians who voted for Nana Addo, adding that the court action is necessary for posterity sake.

NDC General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketiah is asking for protection for Akowuah-Tuffuor because his statement could attract attacks on him by his party members, but NPP stalwart Nana Obiri Boahene has said no NPP members would attack Akowuah-Tuffuor because the party believes in free speech “which is part of the beauty of democracy”.

It is undeniable that Mr. Tstatsu Tsikata is a brilliant lawyer. However, even he would not support some of the language use to describe his wits and skills in the article. It takes a conneseur to appreciate excellence. Rhodes Scholars, sir, are gems in fields they operate in.

The interesting thing about the unfolding drama is that, unlike when the government in the past relied on State Attorneys who performed shoddily leading to suspicions in certain quarters that their lackadaisical performances were deliberate to lose the cases and embarrass the government, this time round it is a different ball game all together. The respondents are being represented by dependable attorneys who have reputations to uphold so just exercise patience. Get a front row seat.

The engineer countered with an even earlier Bible passage that stated God created order from chaos and in doing so performed the biggest and best engineering feat ever. This surely proves engineering to be the oldest profession.

Managements of GNPC, Tap Oil and others sign agreement

Accra, June 16, GNA - Deputy Minister of Energy, Armah Kofi Buah, on Wednesday said government would ensure that companies operating in the oil and gas sector adhered fully to environmental laws governing the sector.

Speaking at the signing of a petroleum agreement for oil exploration in offshore Accra-Keta basin in Accra, Mr Buah said the oil spillage off the Gulf of Mexico should provide a wake-up call to improve enforcement of the environmental laws.

The offshore Accra contract is between Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), Australian firm Tap Oil Limited, Challenger, Minerals Incorporated and Afex Oil Ghana, an affiliate of Afex International based in the US.

Tap Oil Limited would control 36 per cent stake in the joint venture while, the GNPC would control 10 per cent, both US firms involved in the deal would control 27 per cent each.

Mr Buah called on development partners to support the country's efforts to derive maximum benefits from the oil resources and urged them to adhere to the country's laws.

During the exploration, the partners are expected to re-process 600 kilometres of 3D seismic data, acquire 850km of 2D seismic data and drill a single exploration well over the next two and a half years.

The exploration programme would cover an area of 2,000 square kilometres in deep and shallow water.

Nana Boakye Asafu-Adjaye, Managing Director of GNPC, said the partners had both the technical and financial capability to undertake the project through to fruition.

Mr Peter Stickland, CEO of Tap Oil Limited, expressed the partners' commitment to ensure the success of the project, saying the project team came to the field with different expertise.

As Jubilee Field Readies to Deliver First Oil…

WHO OWNS WHAT

The Jubilee Field is the name given the oil field of Ghana, where first commercial oil is expected in the last quarter of this year. The Jubilee Field Unit is situated in Deepwater Tano (DT) and West Cape Three Points (WCTP) blocks, approximately 60km offshore Ghana and 130km west southwest of the port city of Takoradi.

The field area, currently under development, straddles the two blocks - WCTP and DT - where successive commercial oil discoveries were made in Mahogany-1 and Hyedua-1 exploration wells during Ghana’s Golden Jubilee Anniversary year in 2007.

After the oil discoveries, the two blocks, which were close to each other, were unitized or consolidated to ensure efficient and cost effective production of the oil from the two fields. Several other successful wells following the first two have increased the reserve estimate.

Oil reserves in the Jubilee Field are estimated to be between 800 million and 1.5 billion barrels of crude oil of the highest grade. Initial production expected from the field under the first phase is 120,000 barrels a day.

The interest holdings of the Jubilee Partners were consolidated, assuming 50% for Deepwater Tano block and 50% for the West Cape Three Points block.

The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) exercised its option of taking additional paying interest of five percent (5%) in Deepwater Tano and two-and-a-half percent (2.5%) in the West Cape Three Points blocks.

The unitized area, Jubilee Field, has Tullow Oil as Operator, with the highest stake of 34.7046%, whilst Kosmos Energy, the Technical Operator (to lead in exploration issues), just as Anadarko, each hold 23.4913%. GNPC holds 13.7500%, whilst Sabre Oil and Gas and the E.O. Group, hold 2.8127% and 1.7500% respectively.

The interest holdings of the partners determine how much contribution they make in terms of meeting the current costs of development of the field before and during production.
