When Kwaku Baako informed us about the atrocities of Kwasi Pratt during PNDC Regime, some of us did not believe until the truth was confirmed during the NRC. Kwasi Pratt is the most dangerous Journalist Ghana had ever have, he had the gut to recommend his fellow journalists to be executed by PNDC. Pratt even recommended Baako to be killed by the regime, thank God Baako was instead touchered violently and severely but his life was spared. This is what Kwasi Prat can do. Now Pratt is a secret agent to NDC and US Embassy in Ghana. May God forgive Prat and spare him the untold evils that will come upon him and his generations. The souls of those journalist killed through Pratts recommendations to PNDC will never forgive Pratt. Now Patt has the gut to take Diplomatic Passport and smuggled his weak-headed children to work at the Ministries under Mills NDC, may God forgive Pratt and his dependance and spare them of the evils ahead of them...

The NDC would have to explain to Ghanaians how a dead man came to author and sign a letter!
The opening paragraph states, “I came to serve; I have finished my time here on earth and have moved on to everlasting rest and celestial duties with my heavenly father.”
The immediate question is; how did the dead man come to sign his own personal tribute, since he is already in heaven?
The letter then goes on melodramatically, “As you leaf through these pages of my life’s story, I pray to God that it touches your heart in many positive ways. Weep not, I am not dead. I am alive and awake in the Lord. Ghana will not die; Ghana will live to declare the works of the Lord. As I rest in perfect peace in the celestial realms with my maker, I pledge to always uphold and defend the good name of Ghana. Remember the Lord in all your ways and He will protect you. Stay well my brothers and sisters, I will always be with you. Signed (with actual signature) John Evans Atta Mills...

The public should be educated about the menace of state subsidies and their effect on the economy as a whole. Unless people understand the pressures subsidies have on the economy, it is, politically, suicidal for the government to remove them. Right now, a lot of people take for granted the subsidies on petroleum products and utility items; either, they do no see the subsidies reflecting on the prices of those items or overlook their reflection on them; so, any time a government gives a hint to remove them the majority of the public perceive the government is aiming to increase the price of the particular commodity whose subsidy shall be withdrawn. It needs a lot of education for the public to acquiesce acceptance of subsidy removal from certain items - utility and petroleum, included.
In the present economic situation, globally, particularly in democratic countries, many governments have withdrawn subsidies they have granted on certain imported items, including some local ones, to keep the prices down. Those which have not withdrawn them already, are contemplating to do so to relieve the pressures of their economies. However, with the continued high unemployment in the country and the less disposal income for those who are in work, it will take a lot of courage for the young administration of President Mahama to take the decision to remove the state subsidies on petroleum and utility items. Probably, it can remove them in bits and, at the same time, introduce a massive education exercise to show why it is necessary to remove the subsidies. The decision is not going to be easy taken!

Mo ne kasa James Y. These are the kind of people we need in this forum. It has always been my wish for our governments to educate the populace about the happenings in government. That's why we have the NCCE but sadly they don't do anything. The education level in our country isn't that high and as such should have been on government's priority to educate the masses. The learned people and most importantly the media can also take the task in educating our people. The media has a lot of resources to do this for our country but sadly they're all now politically inclined, spinning things in favour of their party.

Your points are very true but even developed economies, governments are very careful and concerned when it comes to increase in petroleum products. If you live in the West, find out how high prices have soared in recent times as a results of increase in petroleum products.
The situation in the West is better because unemployment is not that high as compared to Ghana. Even where people are unemployed, they have many unemployment benefits that help them keep their heads above water. In the case of Ghana, do we havee any such thing? Also consider the pay structure in Ghana to those countries. The government can do all the education before any such increase. What about if it maakes it difficult for the people to survive unless they steal?

Those who inserted the clause in the constitution giving the president tax exemption status, are noting more than idiots. I do not see those people as "educators" or elite. They are nation wreckers. Now, if the president has tax exemption status, who should pay tax? Will the president refuse salary increase? If no and they see themselves as Ghanaians, why can't they argue that their tax exemption status does not make any sense?
Do they feel ashamed when they increase taxes to be paid by the ordinary Ghanaian? That clause in the constitution should be revoked and if those in parliament are really serious, they will act on it quickly.

All the same, if he increases prices by cancelling the subsidy, there will not be any difficulty beCause households now receive a lot as a result of the SSSS and they can easily absorb the prices which the government can nob longer bear.
