Renting a place in Accra, or any major city I guess is not the best option. Renting from a Ga landlord who has family living with him/her is suicidal. That is why people will do all within thier ability to buy land to avoid brutish Ga Landlords who will employ all nasty means to evict you ( according to victims of such brutality.

If these forceful evictions carried out ONLY during the NDC tenure does not touch your heart (honestly, I do not know what would; no matter how hard and tough you are.

Two years ago a similar thing happened in Kumasi through no fault of the owners of the demolished buildings but through, what I would describe as the inefficiency and ineffective Land Laws that we have (or do not have in Ghana)
In any civilised country where the Laws work, prior to purchasing Land or Property, a Search is done(Investigation of Title - for registered Land OR and Epitome of Title if the Land is unregistered)

Someone tell me, where else apart from God-forsaken Ghana do so-called Land owners take your money before you are allowed to go to the Lands Department to register your purchase? Are you suprised that people end up paying money to anyone other than the Title holder of the land?

We HOLD ON TO CENTURIES-OLD TRADITION AND DO NOT MODIFY IT TO SUIT the times. SOmeone sells you Freehold Land and doesn't know that his authority/ownership over the Land stops there and then. He wants to treat you like a Leasheolder.

O, it has to be in Ghana.Haba!!

Even the Court,would not Hear an Appeal from the Affected party. THis is Ridiculous..

This is really sickening.

If Land laws worked in Ghana, a Prospective buyer would know WHO ACTUALLY OWNS the land before purchasing because it would be on the records. Not only the ownership but the History on the property; from Ownership to Mortgages held, Charges, Covenants on the Property, In brief, the history of the Land.

Frafraha is strategically placed and it appears someomne wants to make money on future purchases of the land as it is on the Newly constructed Accra-Aburi road, Mechanical Lloyd ( dealers of BMW cars) Workshop and should the New Airport be constructed at Prampram, it will be the Gateway to Africa's newest Airport.
Well, YOU JUDGE for yourself. These Ga boys are becoming a Law unto themselves.
Someone did not do their job properly or is taking advantage of people's ignorance.

We have the search repor, we have the identure, land title and a provisional building permit which we started to obtain from Tema Metropolitan assembly. When the Adenta metropolitan assembley came into being we had to start the processs of building permit with the Adenta assembley which is ongoing. All these paper works cost fortune of money but we rae doing all genuinely and yet our buildings are under threat for demolition. What a joke? One can one do within the aw to be safe in this country. Thi matter go beyond the individuals who live there. This is the time to see what the MP is made off. This is what political leadership is about. It is about the people. Lets see how he and his government will be able to protect the poor peoples's interest.
