People who argued that Kufuor did it do not have any legs to stand on. the fact that Kufuor may have done it does not make it right.

If the NDC won the election because they are supposed to be better, then how can they get into office and repeat the same dastardly thing they lambast the NPP for?

Dove; A Town Where It Is A Taboo To Menstruate, Give Birth And Bury The Dead

It is a taboo for women to give birth to babies or even menstruate in Dove, a town in the Mafi Traditional Area of the Central Tongu District.

As such, those expecting their menstruation and pregnant women in labour are by whatever possible means carried out of the town. They only return after delivery and after their menses have stopped.

This revelation was made by Dr Joseph Nuertey, the Volta Regional Medical Superintendent, when he delivered the state of health care in the region during the first general meeting of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs (VRHC) at Ho.

Dr Nuertey lamented that because of the age-long taboo, all efforts by the Ministry of Health (MoH) to establish a health facility to take care of birth and other issues had proven futile. He added that the taboo also forbade the burial of the dead in the town.

The medical superintendent, therefore, appealed to the VRHC to use their good offices to appease the gods in the area to lift the taboo. Dr Nuertey's revelation left the traditional rulers dumbfounded.

This prompted the Paramount Chief of the Battor Traditional Area, Togbega Patamia Dzekley VII, to say that he would immediately contact the chief and elders of Dove to see what could be done to resolve the issue

In most circumstances, it is the women, who are mostly farmers that nurture the children until maturity. According to the medical superintendent, he has been told that the gods of the town frown on anybody who flouts the taboo.

Dr Nuertey announced that maternal mortality in the region continued to be too high and this he attributed to the inadequate number of medical personnel and facilities in the region.

I even saw this practice in South Korea in 2007 where the Ghana mission there was filled with 99% akans. How many of Mahama's appointments are from the Greater Accra, Central, Eastern, Ashanti or Brong Ahafo regions? Hanna Tetteh may be an MP in the Central region, but where exactly is she from? According to the 2010 cencus more than 50% of the population are females, but how representative is this in Mahama's appointments? The Al-Hajj should not even attempt to defend this indefensible act of Mahama.

If and only if what is claimed here is true, then shame on Mr. Blay for copying that along his Ashanti appointment by Kufuor. Presidents sorround themselves with people they trust and can assist his success - period. I observed the unfortunate situation when Nkrumah was overthrown and we all saw Afrifah/Busia vs Kotoka/Gbedimah episode. Mr. Blay you know that it is only Kwame Nkrumah that sorounded himself with K.A.Gbedemah, Kofi Baako, Kojo Botsio, Abavana, Krobo Edusei and all that can preach his gospel. Please let all citizens stop for a minute and feel Ghanaians for a change. The country needs input than petty issues that are not necessary. Take a deep breath and let it out. Al-Hajj's probe should focus on something useful to help the young President or change the (Northern name) name to "Okofo" meaning fighter. Afterall three constituencies in Mr. Blay's place of birth voted for NDC just as they voted for Imoru Ayana's (blessed memory) PAP. I believe Mr. Blay do not belong to those that consider ethnic as a big deal unless he learned that from Kufuor's government.
Please stop the laughable situation of court to overthrow the government and hand it over to another to also reappoint his cabinet and fill the supreme court and a whole lot of what NPP considers justice. Let the President appoint Akufo-Addo as Director of Customs so that he can stop drugs that coems out of Ghana and disgrace the country. Just give the "momone" to the cat and it will be safe.

But why is this illiterate newspaper defending Mahama? The president admitted that yes Northerners should vote for him so they can reap the benefits of their own son ruling Ghana.
The writer of this article should simply admit that, and note that if an Akan comes to power and do likewise, he should not complain.
Regional balance? If, say, Upper East has 5% of Ghana's population, and Eastern has 15%, picking one person from the two reasons doesn't balance anything. Eastern must have 3 times the number of appointments given to those in UE. That's called "balance".
For the many appointments Mahama has made, how many has gone to the most populous region? I can't even think of a single appoitment for anyone from Ashanti or Brong Ahafo, or even Eastern Region. It's only the three northern regions and Volta.

Honestly,I get sick in my stomach when I hear that in making public appointments the North should seen as having three Regions.It is true that there are three Regions in the North ,but it equally true that these three regions constitute less than 15 per cent of the population of Ghana.Yet out of 10 Regions of Ghana this sparsely populated North has 3 Regions.Is it not strange that the Ashanti Region is more populated than the three North Regions put together.The three Northern Regions are mostly empty space but democracy is about human beings not empty spaces.The three North Regions have been created to gain undue advantage in the distribution of the country's resources and this what we are beginning to see with Mahama as President.Certainly, going along this path will make the more populated Regions worse off and this will be a recipe for chaos and disintegration of the nation.We need to put away the spirit of locality and think of Ghana as a whole.
