In case the clergy have not noticed, our parliament rubber stamps everything that comes from the president -- the whole confirmation process is a complete waste of time, that is why it would have been nice to have a divided government where the majority of the parliamentarians are from the other party the president is from. Kind of what the US has now with the Congress (Republicans controlling the legislative branch) and the president (Democrats have the executive). One would think that the clergy would support Oye who is trying to seek protection and rights for all, regardless of sexual orientation, religion or tribe. What is wrong with that concept? Understood that homosexuality is a moral issue but where were the clergy when Mahama was having children outside his Christian marriage.

Since when did the clergy become cabinet or parliament to be meeting and taking decisions for Ghana. Are all Ghanaians part of the laity of churches represented by these so-called clergy? Pastors have now turned themselves into business people exploiting their congregations and giving false and unbiblical prophecies on daily basis. When has the clergy condemned such ungodly acts? In Oye Lithur's ministry, nowhere is it stated that she will be in-charge of sexuality. She cannot and will not by default amend the Constitution to allow homosexuality to be legal in Ghana. This is a no-issue. Homosexual are social deviants and require divine intervention. The clergy should fish them out and intercede on their behalf and stop worrying Ghanaians.

The clergy should first focus on their own colleagues refraining from the conduct to help motivate our youth on the right path. But the human rights of every single individual must be respected. And that is what the minister-designate explained. In Ghana we have allowed prisoners to vote but we don't condone their criminal conduct!!NO PROMOTION OF HOMOSEXUALITY, IT SHOULD BE DISCOURAGED BE IT TAKES ROOT BUT ALSO NO HARASSMENT AND LET RULE OF LAW PREVAIL.

According to a census taken in 2000, Christian make up 68.8% of the population. (Pentecostal/Charismatic 24.1%, Protestant 18.6%, Catholic 15.1%, other 11%) The census noted that Muslims make up 15% of the population, however other sources suggest that number may be 30%.[6] Other faiths include traditional African religions and Judaism, which is practiced by a particular Sefwi peoples. There are also communities of Nichiren Buddhists and Bahá'ís in Ghana.

Having said this, I want you to know that I even doubt that Christians make as much as 10% of our total population! This is because if we had as much as 10% christian population our nation will not be filled with so much corrupt politicians and leaders. Christinity is not about what we say, but what we do. Our acts, paint a very poor picture of us as christians.

Finally, I want you to know that this case of homosexuality is something very serious and as a democratic country, we can hardly put up barrier to block its growth in the country. As much as we will like to avoid it, modern democratic tenets (which we have wholeheartedly embraced) will not permit us to continue to ban it. Very soon, and am talking of a period of less than 10 years, we will be obliged by the West to revise our laws and accept homosexuals as part of us. We in Ghana do not live in isolation and will eventually give in to the demands of our own brothers, sisters, and children.

Yes, instead of raising their voices against a woman who only talks about protecting the rights of every citizen (including homosexuals) the clergy should rather come out boldly and fight against bribery, corruption, and absentism that has eaten deep into our society.

Whilst homosexuals may constitute just about 1% of our population, corrupt persons can easily exceed 50% of our population. So where do we have real problems? With homosexuals or with corrupt officials and leaders?

I wish we will get our priorities right and spend more time on what is destroying our society.

Now if this woman is not the kind for, some one who encourages Gayism, ( this is not for Ghana, we are a Christian nation, even Moslems, do not support this ugly practice) Ghana is a topical cultural nation, this lady/woman had to face a vote of No Confidence. All the 3 system of government had to go for voting on her appointment. Do not only leave it in the hands of the Legislature, for they have in first place foumbled.
If we have minister of culture and tourism, why do we need this ministry? This seems to me as duplicating of ministry. How can this be, even countries like the United States are trying to simplify the structure of government why are we a little country like Ghana trying to go big or make the government big.
This would enhance berucracy.

The only culture worth keeping is our dance moves and clothes. Have you realise I did not add respecting your elders to it, that went out of the window ages ago.

Sometimes I wonder why I find women with big backsides and wide hips sexually attractive, then I realised that almost all Black men prefer big backsides and wide hips. So how come White men prefer smaller backsides and slimmer hips?
Homosexuality, if by choice may be wrong, but what about if it is not by choice, but rather a natural element instilled in that person by his biological composition or by God!..In both cases what right do we, as mere human beings have, to interfere with someone else sexual preference.

5 years ago I was walking my two boys (16 and 14) to a bus stop; on the way to their cousins’ birthday party in Croydon (London) and as a father I thought , hey ,it would be safer for me to walk them to the stop, you see, we live in Brixton!
My in-built African culture, IN WHICH I AM VERY PROUD OF, prompt me to put my arms around my 16 year-old shoulder and held the hands of the 14year old as we walk down the street. A few metres to the bus stop I heard “faggots” you can’t do your shit here! ... now I’ve been living in Brixton for 25 years and I know when not to turn round and when to run, not this time, because I thought it wasn’t our problem. Then I heard it again, this time the voice was nearer and louder so I turned to look at what is going on ,then I realised it was DIRECTED AT US!...This guy was coming after us aggressively, so I grabbed my sons umbrella and whacked him very hard, just at the edge of his nose bridge. It was the best move I have ever made because I didn’t even realise he was armed until his knife dropped.
To cut a long story short,
I was 44yrs then and I keep wondering what would have happened if we didn’t have an umbrella to strike first. My family would have written; A DARLING HUSBAND AND A LOVING CARING FATHER and this guy would be bragging to his friends how he killed a faggot, puff, arse fucker...etc

My question is if Nana Oye says she will not promote the act of homosexuality but rather protect the practictioners, then where is her stand? Something you will not promote why do you turn around and protect?

Africans shun homosexuality as it is not part of our culture. I remember a journalist in Uganda was killed by unknown assailants for openly declaring his stand to defend homosexuality some few years ago.

Nana Oye has her right to do what she knows best by playing the role of human rights activist for gays and lesbians but she should not be given a bigger platform in the government to "protect" those practicing for that evil act to gain firm roots in our culture.

NO this should not be allowed on the soils of Ghana.

Prez.Yahya Jemmeh, of the Gambia once vowed to deal drastically with homosexuals when they planned to hold international gathering in that country. Ghana should remember, the Uganda and the Gambia examples to avoid the wrath of God like what happened ages ago in Sodom and Gomorrah for the sake of posterity. If homosexuality is despicable act and GOD hates the act then it should not be entertained in any form in our culture. Anybody who cherishes their rights must not be allowed hold national (ministerial)positions. Islam (the Koran) abhors it and Christianity (the Bible) condemns the act and people involved in it in any form as grieviously sinful. THIS IS NOT "NDC AND NPP ISSUE", let us be frank and tackle the issue in non-partisan manner for the betterment of mother Ghana.
