  The Ghana Armed Forces, as a whole, is not only weak, but poorly paid. Indeed, a small boy working in McDonald's Restaurant in Europe or America earns more pay than a General or equivalent of the Ghana Armed Forces. Even Togo can walk over Ghana comfortably!

  Let us deal with the more serious issues concerning the security of the state. On that score, I have very strong doubts that the Ghana Navy is capable of effectively policing the seas bordering Ghana. They are definitely not sufficiently-equipped to do this job. Besides, I do not think that the entire Ghana Armed Forces is disciplined enough.
  
  The Ghana Armed Forces has suffered greatly from meddling in the political appointment of Commanders and heads whose primary obligation has been loyalty to those who appointed them and not the stability or the integrity of the state. As a result, discipline and professionalism has gone to the dogs.
  
  If the Rear Admiral truly believes that our 2 by 4 Navy can effectively patrol our vast coastal waters with their 5 or 6 toy boats, then he is obviously saying so to favour those who appointed him but not necessarilly in the interest of the nation. If he had the interest of the state at heart he would have come out strongly, demanding that the state does more to make the Navy a true Navy that will be a proud institution for all Ghanaians.
  
  What we should all be concerned about is how to build up the Navy to effectively serve our national needs and purposes. This should include minimizing corruption and managing the economy better so that we can better equip opur Armed Forces.

A weak CNS presided over an atrocious slaughter of NAVAL Officers 31 years ago(04-02-1982). NOBODY HAS BEEN PROSECUTED for this and some of these criminals who perpetrated this heinous crime are still WALKING FREE. Lest they are forgotten, sleep well COMMANDERS BARNOR, ADJAVON and Chief HUGHE, killed on that fateful day by a bunch of WEE SMOKING COWARDLY BASTARDS IN NAVAL UNIFORM. GHANA NAVY's HISTORICAL SHAME under RAWLINS RULE.

  People just love to insult others for no apparent reason but jealousy.Some even do not know the 'victim'personally yet they bombard them with insults.I really do not know the Rear Admiral but at least during his term of office,Ghana has acquired a number of fast boats and some of our young officers are on courses overseas.At least he has brought in 7 fast'one shot reload' gun boats...better than nothing eh?

  WASSA is an Hausa word for Get-together. During the days of Royal West African Frontier Forces( RWAFF). The force NCOs were most Hausas from the Glover Hausas,. Instructing and music ( Abongo Songs) were all in the Hausa language . Therefore the British Oficers in identifying themselves with themen will always want to communicate in Hausa. As traditioed of the British ,at the end of the year , the units holds a get together bringing in traditions of all the major tribes in Ghana. Preceeding with inter company games before thefeasting , dancing etc. The British instead of calling it Battalion or Company Get -Together chose the Hausa name Wassa instead. All the years this tradition had caught up with the Military and Police, its quite surprising why today its been abbreviated to mean West Africa Security Service Asociation,which of course has no bearing with games , eating and dancing . The Armed Forces must not abbreviate this tradition.

  When was the fist and last time we ever saw Ghana Navy in action (other than coups). Aytime any branch of our military receives even new knives, they have to make loud noises about super-readiness. Peace keeping (after the action), coups, harrassment of civilians even with what the police can handle, debt collection... That is what our military does best. Am I alone?
