Agbofa Yao Hateka, the 47-year-old fetish priest who fathered nine kids with daughter has pleaded with a Sogakope circuit court to forgive him his sins as he would not do it again.

He has so far made two appearances in the Sogakokpe Circuit Court for having nine children with his daughter, four of whom were dead.

Agbofa Yao Hateka was in the Sogakope court on 12th and 13th July charged with incest. According to the prosecutor, inspector Emmanuel Atsor, the case was reported to the Dabala Police by a certain Torgbey Sekpetey II, chief of Ashagborkope, who is also a tax collector. The complainant told the police on June 7th 2012 that the accused was married to his biological daughter, Baby Hateka with whom he has nine kids. Yao Hateka allegedly impregnated Baby and subsequently had eight other children with her. Out of the lot, there were now five kids aged 14, 12, 3, 2 and a month-and-a-half old. During the interrogation however, Baby Hateka told the police she had eight other children with her father out of which three died, contradicting the accused person’s narration that he had only a two year old baby with his daughter.

The accused would not allow anybody to intervene as he allegedly threatened people with death if they meddled in his sexual relationship with his daughter. He allegedly threatened to invoke the spirit of his gods to deal with meddlers. The accused told the court that he was both a farmer and a fisherman, although the prosecution witness claimed he was unemployed. Before his arrest, the accused told the police that his daughter suffered from sickle cell anaemia, and had come to stay with him from a cocoa-growing area. Torgbey Sekpetey II had earlier fined the accused a fowl so his daughter could be cleansed before reporting the matter to the police. The case has been adjourned to 20th July 2012 for judgement.**

A magistrate court at Akim Oda has granted GH?20,0000 bail to Akua Mmrah, a farmer, who allegedly strangled a 92-year-old colleague, who died later. Mmrah, 88, would reappear on August 30, 2012.

Police Chief Inspector Kwadwo Ahenkorah told the court presided over by Mr. Albert Owusu Annor that the complainant, a farmer, is the daughter of Madam Yaa Nsowaa, the deceased, who lives at Akim Kokobeng near Akim Oda with the accused person.

The prosecution said a land dispute ensued between the deceased and the accused.

Chief Insp. Ahenkorah said that on June 12 this year, Mmrah went to the farm and met Madam Nsowaa and the complainant discussing the disputed land.

The prosecution said when Madam Nsowa returned home, she went to a neighbour’s house to ‘fetch fire’ to set her own fire.

The court heard that Mmrah emerged from nowhere and accused the 92-year-old woman of insulting her, and strangled her.

The witness in the case appeared on the scene and rescued the old woman and sent her home.

Chief Insp Ahenkorah said the old woman later fell unconscious and was rushed to the Akim Oda Government Hospital, where she died.**

A Kumasi Circuit Court presided over by Justice D.W.P. Amedior has sentenced an octogenarian drug-dealer to 10 years imprisonment
Eighty-two year old Agambilla Akolbillah was caught with 45 wraps of cannabis, weighing 2,436.32 grams at Achiase, a farming community near Mpasaaso in the Ahafo-Ano South District.

He was charged with possessing narcotic drug without lawful authority and pleaded guilty to the offence.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Regina Addo-Yobo told the court that the convict was arrested by the police on February 17, at about 2030hours, following a tip off.

The drug had been concealed in a black polythene bag in his room.

The prosecution said Akolbillah admitted ownership and promised to lead the police to his source of supply but failed.

Samples sent to the police forensic laboratory for examination proved to be cannabis.**

A 45-year old farmer, Opanyin Kofi Anokwar is in the grips of the Wassa Akropong Police for allegedly having sexual intercourse with his 13-year old daughter.

According to the Wassa Akropong Police, the suspect accused the daughter of not sleeping early at night and rather flirting with some boys in the town.

However, the daughter who is in JHS One denied the allegations and rather accused the father of sexually assaulting her when the mother was not at home.

This accusation prompted the elders in the town to report the father to the Wassa Akropong Police who acted swiftly to arrest him on Tuesday July 17.

The police said Opanyin Anokwar is in police custody assisting them in their investigations to unravel the truth.**

A self-styled man of God who defiled an 8-year-old girl at Dansoman two months ago, is still walking free.

The girl, who has had to live the trauma of the defilement which happened on May 2nd this year has had her case pending for the past two months and the parents are livid about the way the police is handling the matter. According to them, they left their child in the care of the 28-year old man of God, Winnie Ofori-Quaye only to return to meet her in a sorry state.

The victim told Joy News’ Francis Abban in the absence of her parent the culprit lured her into his room under the pretense of watching TV. She narrated that she fell asleep in the process only to wake up and realize the self-styled man of God on top of her.

When she pleaded with the accused to stop, he threatened to slit her throat with a knife forcing her bear the agonising ordeal in painful silence.
The matter was later reported to the Police who issued a medical form which diagnosed the victim to be suffering from urinary tract infection and vulvo-vaginal candidiasis.

The mother of the victim, Naomi Owusu, told Joy News her daughter’s traumatic condition has been compounded by the seeming neglect of the case by the police.
Joy News’ sources at the Dansoman Police indicate the case has gone stale because the investigator and the prosecutor appear to have an interest.

Officials there have however declined to go on record.

A woman who was seven months pregnant has been gruesomely murdered, possibly for ritual purposes, by some unknown assailants at Pakyi Number One near Kumasi.
Akosua Mansah, 32, was found dead in an uncompleted building at Pakyi Number One, near the International Community School around 11:00am on Saturday.

The deceased, a resident of Nkwanta near Pakyi Number One, had her throat slashed by her fiendish killers who could not be traced.
Some sperms were found on her thighs, indicating that she might have been raped before being killed.

Some construction workers who were going to work in the uncompleted building found the dead body in a pool of blood and raised alarm.
There were houseflies all over the lifeless body of Mansah, a mother of three, with her brassier lying beside it.

Eyewitnesses suspected that the pregnant mother was killed somewhere else the previous night, and her body later dumped in the uncompleted building.
Residents of Pakyi Number One where the dead body was found were shocked to the marrow as they were heard cursing the killers of the deceased.

They believed that the killers cut the throat of the pregnant woman and drained her blood for spiritual purposes.
The police were called to pick the dead body which is now at the mortuary awaiting autopsy, DAILY GUIDE was told.
The paper also gathered that the police had started investigations to apprehend the runaway killers of the deceased.

I have read some of the comments posted on this site and I am disgusted by people who politicise issues like this. I have a niece who has learning disability abs has speech and language difficulties. We look after her very well as a family. On one occasion when she was sent to her aunt's house, a very sane human beingin the name of a man got her into his car, took her to a location and raped her. This beast gave her some money and dropped her off.All the girl could say was "he raped me" and showed us the money. These rapists prey on the vulnerable ones. The beast was lucky to get away with it. But we are watching and waiting. He would be lucky if the police finds him alive. And to those who believe a girl deserves to be raped because of the way she dresses, pray no member of your family is raped. In some societies women walk about half naked and they are free to do so. If you have nothing positive to say about this, please do not comment.

Rape has never been an issue in Africa until recently.Research has clearly indicated that over 90% of African women are raped at least once in their lifetime.They refuse to talk about it,they refuse to expose the men involved and they refuse to report the matter to Law-enforcement agencies.The reason is simple.They might resist in the beginning but when the man or boy penetrates without any difficulty they accept it and enjoy it.The only exceptions are under-age girls who sustain injuries and pains,even with these girls they sometimes hide it until their parents put pressure on them to confess.

Rubbish- rape has been happening for since the beginning of time- it is a form of psychopathy and psychopaths have been around since the beginning of time. The difference is that there used to be a lot of shame and stigma attached to rape and when marriages were arranged domestic rape would be more common as opposed to the date rape scenarios that now take place. Also now there are more support networks at all levels for victims- so victims are encouraged to report and share their experiences.
It is completely wrong to suggest that women who are raped come to 'accept and enjoy it'- this is a very worrying belief that it surprisingly prevalent amongst Ghanaian men. Rather it is more likely that they do not report rape because of the shame, stigma and concern that it will derail what vestiges of normal life they have. Generally world wide- even in very progressive countries- the police are terrible at handling rape cases. In India they say that only 25% of reported rapes are prosecuted, but surprisingly this is also true in America.

However, also equally bizarre are those who blame the politicians...for serious, maybe the problem with Ghana is Ghana's rickety, deeply unsympathetic attitude towards human rights?

Where Ghana has a problem of children being raped, it is because there is poor human rights for children and almost no way that a child can report abuse and know they will be protected and cared for. Also Ghana still has a residual attitude problem to the way it sees women. Ghanaian women, whilst having a much stronger position than women in some countries are still objectified as material possessions that invite violation. They are human beings- rape them and they will bleed, burn and suffer with the memories.

As men we need to be supportive of women issues. Women need all the help they can get especially when it comes to rape. We in society need to change our ways to make this place a better world for all.

I have met women who lives were change and all dreams shutted when they suffered this fate in their 13-14th years. How can the nation progress when our women are not protected from such harm? Its high time campaign is mounted to fight this canker to the level of teachers who demand sex from students for marks or questions and those old men who sit in offices and demand sex for jobs. This canker is definitely ruining the nation in every way. Even in our politics, able women who could sit in parliament and build our nation are never given the chance except those who open their legs but have nothing to offer. Ghana is doomed for disaster very soon. We only sit on a timed-bomb.
