As far as I am concerned, there is no journalist in Ghana called Alhaji Bature because he resigned during the FONKAR games. He insisted to Shamima of Citi FM that if Nana Konadu went ahead to contest Prof. Mills he would stop practicing journalism, saying, as usual, that he had credible information from deep throat sources to the contrary. Lo and behold, Konadu stands but Bature is still at post.

In fact, this 'newpaper' has gained notoriety for publishing falsehood to the extent that even NDC friends that I know of would not waste their time to read even the headlines. At my workplace, it is given out free of charge to a few people who hardly read a page or two of the 'newspaper'. At the newstand, I have been asking vendors whether people buy the ''Al Hajj'' and the answers are not far fetched. The paper, I believe cannot sell even five hundred copies out of every issue. Even wolo boys (boys who sell old newspapers in markets in Accra) would tell you people do not like using Al Hajj as rappers in the markets.

How many times has this paper paublished stories that have turned out to be true? Is it that people do not feel ashamed of themselves when they persistently publish stories that turned out to be untrue? Has journalism been reduced to such low levels? Honestly, these are not interesting times to be called a journalist (with all due respect to media practitioners who are obviously living above board).

The question is how is this kind of 'newspaper' financed? Who pays for their overheads? Does the National Media Commission not have anything to do with this kind of obviously unprofessional journalistic practices?

Is the Al Hajj part of the rented press as portrayed by the former Attorney-General, Martin Amidu? Or is it part of the agenda to divert attention out of government when it is being scrutinised? Time will tell.

AN EXAMPLE NEED TO BE LEARNED FROM US SUPREME COURT, THAT DISMISSED AL GORE'S PETITION CHALLENGING THE ELECTION RESULTS OF 2000 IN THE UNITES STATES OF AMERICA.

AMERICA WITH A POPULATION OF THREE HUNDRED MILLION(300) POPULATION WITH NINE(9) STATUTE JUDGES WORKED ON THat ISSUE IMMEDIATLY AS COMPARED TO TWENTY TWO(22) MILLION POPULATION OF GHANA WITH ALSO NINE(9)JUDGES AND FOR THIS CASE TO DRAG ON IN THE COUNTRY.

THE QUESTION IS SHOULD GHANA WITH SUCH A RELATIVELY LOW POPULATION HAVE NINE JUDGES8(9) TO SERVE AT THE SUPREME COURT OF GHANA.

Never should NPP BASELESS PETITION BE ALLOWED TO DRAG ON, AND TO ABSORB ENERGIES OF GHANAIANS.

IT DESTROYS THE MANDATE OF THE MAJORITY, THE NATIONS REPUTATION ABROAD AND SCARES FOREIGN INVESTORS IN DOING BUSINESS IN THE COUNTRY.

PLEASE, DISMISS THE PETITION NOW.
