DUTCH football legend, Ruud Gullit, believes the Super Eagles are as good as winning the 2013 Africa Nations Cup following a spectacular performance on Wednesday when Nigeria beat Mali 4-1 in the first semi-final of Afcon 2013.

To him, the turning point for Nigeria was the win over the highly-rated Ivory Coast team which Nigeria beat 2-1 in the quarter final.

‘’I think the Nigerian football is the best on display.They have a strong and clever way to get the ball behind their opponents especially with Mikel dictating the direction where the passes go,’’ Gullit told Supersport.

He gave credit to Stephen Keshi’s tactical options.

‘’Against Ivory Coast, everybody thought the Eagles were coming to defend but they came for attacking play and it paid off. With that mindset, they came to hurt the Malians’’.

The Black Stars who were defeated on penalty kicks on Wednesday have already lost and that is history. Hot favourites Ivory Coast with their star assembly have been kicked out in quarter finals by Nigeria. So the end of a every game is the beginning of a new one. Ghana is in the last four out of 54 nations in Africa. That in itself is an achievement. So the president being humourous and not whining like the defeated NPP is a fresh approach at looking at things. By so doing; we as a people can collectively cheer up and laugh over ourselves; for laughing is the best medicine. This way of going about things eases our minds so that we are not locked up collectively in a defeat we could not reverse.

Heck! Ghanaians cannot keep on agonizing like the NPP who are still mourning a defeat that is two months old. I am glad John Mahama has not lost his sense of humour and could crack some jokes on things we cannot change. For this silly boy Awuku to use this as a fodder shows the frustration of the NPP. Even the defeat of the Black Stars has now become a golden calf for the NPP. Ssshhhhh! Ghana lost 3-2 on penalty kicks!

Sammy Awuku, President Mahama has just expressed what most Ghanaians would have said at the end of the day of play. So leave the President alone, after all he was represented by the Vice President. This I believe is sufficient and enough for Ghanaians who were not able to or cannot afford to pay to make the journey.

Why is that NPP has make an issue of politics of everything in Ghana? Are there not more important issues in Ghana to focus on? There are Economic, Finacial, Social Housing, Infrastructure projects projects issues to solve. When is NPP going to start THINKING about BIPARTISANSHIP in Ghana to solving the country's many problems? Yes, the country needs a very strong Opposition to function properply but, the NPP is not doing good at all.

It is about time Sammy Awuku for your NPP to situp and begin thinking POSITIVELY for the country's development.

If inspite of all this support by the referee, we put on this woeful display,the President was right not to have dressed the performance in any diplomatic language. Yes, it is possible if he had been there, people would have used that as a bad omen, but has anybody claimed the VEEP's presence was the cause of their defeat? The president could have said everything to express his displeasure at their embarrassing performance, but the word "glad" is unpresidential. We need to call a spade a spade; presidents do joke, but judiciously!

The black stars did not go to South Africa for a fashion show, a hair cut/dye competition, they went for a continental football tournament. But what have we seen, various types of fanciful and annoying hair cuts and dyes. Absolutely disgraceful. Instead of focusing on football some of them spent much time on their hair. They were in South Africa to promote their hair cuts instead of focusing on football. These boys lack discipline and commitment. The Black stars players who won the title three times were serious players who focused on football and how to improve their skills. These boys must change or stop playing for Ghana. NO DISCIPLINE NO CALL UP TO THE TEAM. The world's great players , Messi, Ronaldo, Alves, Rooney are serious people. They work hard and focus on playing football to win. Our boys indulge in show offs with fanciful dribbling which leads no where. Coach Appiah must instill discipline in the team and remove all those with fanciful haircut. He must go on re-training overseas to upgrade his skills. FootbalL has changed a lot in recent times and without catching up on skill and new trends, he will go nowhere with the team. The Black Stars' problem hinges on management, not the coach. I think Kwasi Appiah is doing his best. The problem is that he needs technical advisers, ex-football international stars, who can read the game well and offer their constructive, technical, tactical advice. I'm strongly of the opinion that people like Abedi Pele and Marcel Desailly can do this job. As Rev. Osei Kofi rightly put it, the GFA management stinks somehow since none of the members were high-profile football stars. Something has to be done - and as quickly as possible!

We all know if the AYEWS had been able to make the team it could have been a different story. They play in a top league and a top team so they are good when in form and fit. The Ayews and Mahama are from the North and are therefore Ghanaians and likewise capable of doing their various jobs with distinction just as anybody who is qualified for a particular job. NPP did not allow Aliu Mahama to stand for the top job in Ghana but NDC allowed John Mahama and he got the job but NPP keeps politicising his every move when the defeat of the Stars is a possibility in the game of football. Guiltiness rests upon the conscience of Awuku because of the Black Stars demise when surrounded by his NPP "know it all" and "all die be die" discriminating lot. The players who did not perform should also take responsibility as they did not deserve the win against Cape Verde. They had an easier group and most decisions favoured them so what else do they want! The coach may have made some tactical errors but all coaches do and it is not his alone but the technical staff too. Above all he is the coach so he probably did what was best at the time with the inside knowledge he had which we do not have be it injuries, fitness or otherwise.
We will not judge them but we believe they could have done better and that is what all supporters hope and believe.

How can a President say "I am GLAD l did not go to SA to watch Black Stars match because of their defeat knowing well that the team have a game to play to clinch the 3rd spot. His words are not encouraging but rather demoralizing. He should know that the downfall of a man at a certain time is not a complete doom of his life time.

This is sports. At all cost there must be a winner and a loser. Words of appreciation and encouragement is needed. Who knows what this ATOPAHENE was doing during the time these courageous boys were shedding their sweat out far away in South Africa?
