It seems the security Personnel along our borders have been sleeping all along and it was only when hints of Fuel Price increases hit the air waves that they, all of a sudden, woke up to start making arrests of fuel smugglers.

For the record, Smuggling at the Borders has been with us since 'the time of Adam' and it includes several other commodities whose price seems favorable because of Commodity Pricing differentials and Exchange Rate issues.

There will always be Smuggling either into Ghana or out of Ghana. The Challenge for us as Leaders is how we manage it to the barest minimum.

Smugglers have been smuggling WAX PRINTS from neighboring countries and into Ghana for God knows how long, yet we have not reduced Domestic Taxes on locally manufactured WAX PRINTS to make locally produced ones less expensive so it can be price competitive with sub-regional pricing.

Must Government worry about Cross-Border price disparities ONLY when it concerns products it 'subsidizes' and Govt is under pressure to increse prices DUE TO REVENUE SHORTFALLS?

And when a price increase is being considered, must it be bandied about by Govt Institutions in such crude and patronizing manner?

Government, As far as I know, has always done what it wants to do with Pricing of Utilities, anyway.

Must Government always make FOOLS out of ALL OF US and make us feel STUPID as a prelude to doing what they will eventually do, that is, hike prices?

Any time Utility Price increase considerations are on the drawing board of Govt, all of sudden, DUM-SO, DUM-SO moves into Hi-GEAR, reports of fuel smuggling dominate our air waves and there is water shortage all over.

Please, Ghana boasts of having a relatively educated people and we demand to be treated as such.

The fact that this scheming has been introduced into our 'POLITICAL THOUGHT' must not make it a permanent feature and institutionalized just as we have made Corruption a feature and a WAY OF LIFE in the way we do things.

There are Ghanaians trained and seized with the requisite virtues of INTERGRITY, COMPETENCE and proven COMMITMENT to fight Corruption.

Our leaders manage to be influenced by those who benefit from the rot by allowing them to SMEAR those they know will not allow them to have a field day and Govt obliges them by keeping such people out of Govt. so the crooks can have their way.

When the ILL-EFFECTS of the nation wreckers put AVOIDABLE pressure on our Economy, the weakest frontier of the Ghanaian society, the POOR and VULNERABLE become the beneficiaries of the failures of leaders who are less affected by any price increase.

If we are VERY, VERY SERIOUS about building a FAIR and an ECONOMICALLY viable society, let's have our leaders send their kids to the Schools they superintend, let them buy fuel without Govt. Coupons, Govt. Housing subsidies must be discontinued by having them pay ECONOMIC RENT for that big Bungalow sitting on a whole acre of land in the heart of the city that they occupy, and have them drive through choking traffic without sirened cars or motor bikes pushing all other road users dangerously to the side.

It is then and only then that our leaders will feel the PAIN, AGONY and FRUSTRATION of the Ghanaian people

Kwesi Pratt is the most dangerous Journalist Ghana had ever have, he had the gut to recommend his fellow journalists to be executed by PNDC. Pratt even recommended Baako to be killed by the regime, thank God Baako was instead touchered violently and severely but his life was spared. This is what Kwesi Pratt can do. Now Pratt is a secret agent to NDC and US Embassy in Ghana. May God forgive Pratt and spare him the untold evils that will come upon him and his generations. The souls of those journalist killed through Pratt's recommendations to PNDC will never forgive Pratt. It is rich who are benefiting from the subsidy NOT the poor. We always hypocritically use cost of transportation as an excuse to fuel the luxury cars of the rich. If subsidies are removed, the savings will be used to improve pro-poor policies like free education through high school, free healthcare,creating jobs through investment in infrastructure like roads which will eventually reduce the cost of transportation, housing etc etc. Now the rich are enjoying the subsidy by driving gas guzzlers and NOT paying what it costs. They will eventually cut their costs by using more fuel efficient cars thereby reducing the amount spent on importation of fuel and government will make substantial savings on its fuel budget.

As much as we all agree that the removal of subsidy will affect everything we cannot say that that should not be done because definitely people will continue to demand increase in their wages.Ghanaians are intentionally causing hardships for themselves.When you come down here in Accra you will realize that foodstuffs and even fruits which can be sold cheaper and yet the traders make profit they rather make it impossible for people to buy and when they get rotten they are thrown away and saying that people don't buy.When we live in a country where everybody thinks he or she knows everything that is the situation we face.Many things are going wrong and people pretend all is well.As for the fuel increase that will be done because it cannot remain at the current price forever.WE ALL HAVE THE RESPONSIBILITY TO HOLD OR LEADERS FOR WHAT THEY DO WRONG

If they genuinely remove the subsidy, the increasement won't be over-bearing. The subsidy goes into the wrong pocket. They can't account for it, yet Tor owes a lot of money.
It is insane, you owe a lot of money, you continue to borrow, the little profit and tax goes to the government. Why operate at all. Tor is being driven down to be sold later.

Even though we Ghanaians don't know how to make tyres let alone cars but we drive ultra-model car which is even impossible and uneasy to acquired . Besides through taxation that the government can provide infrastructure and other amenities that societal needs not subsidizing . Also during nation building the poor must contribute likewise the rich. so keep quiet.
