Just imagine being able to travel from Bolgatanga to Accra at a speed of 300miles/hr. in less than 3hrs! Lets disabuse ourselves of our hereditary small mindedness, we have nothing to loose.

Kotoka still operates in was designed in the 1950s whereby only one plane can land at a time as buses then drive back and forth to fetch the passengers to the arrival hall. Whenever two aircrafts land at the same time or within 30 minutes apart, it is usually a disaster at the airport because the system is not designed to work as such. I have stories whereby the porters have to carry luggages on their head from the plane all the way to the arrival hall/baggage claim area.

If there are no plans to remove Kotoka from the heart of the city entirely, then it can still be redesigned in a horse-shoe shape to accommodate modern terminals and multiple gates system where the aircrafts park close to the gate so that there will be no need for buses. With that multiple planes can land minutes apart without a problem as seen in all modern airports. We don't necessary have to build a new airport to put a new system in place.

But the problem is that the current crop of leaders both at the airport, the ministries, and successive governments altogether are very much intimidated by change and how to manage it; therefore it is easier for them to maintain the system that they know best. That is a major part of the problem in Ghana.

The money to build a redundant airport would then go towards building a semi-high speed commuter train system that goes overhead along the major streets of Greater Accra as well as connect all the regional capitals.

Not all high-speed trains in China are manufactured in Canada, Bombardier transportation manufactures foreign trains, but many of them are not used in Canada, due to the fact that high-speed/bullet rail is not that popular in Canada. High speed rail is amazing, but the only problem is the cost. Although the technology is available, many countries and regions with bullet rail are very wealthy. The cost of bullet rail/high speed rail is in the billions of dollars. China during 2011-2015 plans to invest up to 600 billion dollars into the program. The fact is many individuals do not realize that conventional rail is much cheaper that high-speed rail, and that there needs to be a lot of infrastructure to support and manage it. The irony is the train(s) itself is/are the cheapest part of high-speed rail. China does have one of the top three expansive and advanced bullet rail systems, but one should know that they are also the biggest economy in the world and that they are more than capable of paying for such an expensive system. The cost of bullet rail in Ghana could cost at minimum 15 billion for the entire country with only major cities included. FYI some Chinese technology is cheap and bogus, but the technology coming from government owned companies is advanced, with partnerships with other countries contributing to the technology,as well as stiff competition in the technology industry. There are some claims of forged military technology by some countries against China, contributing to claims of forged technology. Salaries in China are low, and there are a lot of people in the country, hence manufactured technology is cheap. Its unfortunate that many products, especially technological products are over-priced for the African market. Manufacturers, sell their products in the first world, once they can't sell it any more because its too old, they modify the design of the product and sell it as an overpriced and under-featured device for the developing world, do that they can make more money from overpricing low-end products.

Accra's population is just under 2 million whilst NYC has a population of 8.2 million. NYC is the cultural capital of the world and the most linguistically diverse city in the world.It's home of the United Nations Headquarters and serves as an important center for international diplomacy.Quit the wanna-be craze and cut your coat to your size. If the idea of a new larger and more modern airport is part of the authorities' larger vision of relocating the capital then I'm all for it. Accra is congested, antiquated and development shy. It has very little room for improvement and modernisation.It was a bold and ambitious plan but also prudent for the Nigerian authorities to relocate the administrative capital from Lagos to Abuja. It's debatable though if the new airport location is the best location for Ghana's new administrative capital if the idea is to follow on the heels of the Nigerians. My advice is what needs to be done must be executed in a prudent manner. There'd be no second chance and besides we don't have the luxury of financial reources and time is not on our side.

Can't we start with a well thought out decentralization plan first ? How come all our administrative needs, as a people, have to be met in Accra ? It sounds inefficient and utterly ridiculous to me. Without a vision and well thought out plans and deliverables, building a new this or that will not help our cause.

If you have a modern airport away from the city then you need high speed transport to the capital or build economic hubs around the new area of which we don't have.A feasibility needs to be done on how many passengers travel from inland so that you can expand Kumasi so that some international flights can stop there to fetch passengers to Europe. These may reduce congestion.All reginal capitals don't need airports,some may be airstrips that can be constructed in public private partnerships. You vcan fky from an airstrip run by a mining comapany from example Newmont in Ahafo to Accra easily if they have one. Most Mining Companies in Africva have these except Ghana we want to utilise State facilities always.

If for some reasons you don't wanna put up any airport or development on any of the Akan Cities (but remember Akan Regions are the source of Ghana economy)please construct the Airport in one of the cities in the North or Ewe knowing very well Accra has an International Airport and the City is getting congested. Mr Preaident , have you travelled outside Ghana before or has any of your staff been outside the country before? I don't think you and your staff travelled abroad to drink coffee and come back; at least you've been there and you saw how Cities and Airports are built with vision. If you don't have a clue or vision as to now to go about it please consult other countries as to what to do. I mean you cannot jamm 2 international Airports in one City when other Cities are lacking. Did you consider any foreign invasion? In the developed world they plan for these projects 10 to 20 years ahead. In the last 10 years the number of air traffic to Accra has increased a lot and it is projected to increase further. Bigger aircraft are now in operation on major routes. There is no capacity to enlarge Kotoka. If you build this new aiport in Kumasi or Tamale we do not have a high speed train to connect to the capital.

Pram pram is therefore the right choice. London has 4 airport close to it - Heathrow, Gatwick, City and Stansted

The truth is that most international businsses are conducted and sited in Accra.

If you put this new Airport in, say, Tamale, that will mean these investors, who land in Tamale, will then have to travel to Accra to conduct their business. These businesses will not shift to Tamale.

Instead the new airport must be within greater Accra. The regional airports must then be mmodernised and expanded. It makes a lot of sense that way.

When you come to the U.K., Heathrow is the main airport, with five terminals and a sixth airport in the City (City Airport). These six airports are in London, because London is, arguably, the busiest financial centre in the world (with new York in tow). Replicate that in Ghana and you'll see that it makes economic sense to build it in Greater Accra, with improved domestic services.

Bigger aircraft are now in operation on major routes. There is no capacity to enlarge Kotoka. If you build this new aiport in Kumasi or Tamale we do not have a high speed train to connect to the capital.

Pram pram is therefore the right choice. London has 4 airport close to it - Heathrow, Gatwick, City and Stansted

Given the deplorable state at Kotoka, a major improvement to world standards will be more than adequate and it will at a less cost than having a new airport.
