I must have missed the news report on the death of the first. All die be die? The question we should ask is whether the procedure should have been performed locally in the first place? Doctors in Ghana's public health care system complain of lack of everything. Did they at this time have the equipments to perform such complex procedure?

My condolence to the family but we should examine our health system again. This case aside, people die needlessly which is worrisome.

Even the removal of an appendix requires 3 doctors, the surgeon, the assistant, and the anaesthetist. Even in USA we do not use 3 surgeons to separate conjoined twins. To start with you need at least a minimum of six doctors after separation, three to attend to each baby. The a further 2 neonatologist to care for them immediately following the operation. The the other specialist to look at the blood vessels, the live and the bowel. Please next time you watch the programme in India listen carefully as nobody in anywhere in the world separates conjoined twins with 3 doctors. In Ghana where the right equipments are lacking I suspect several doctors will be required as this will be a long-haul. I applaud the effort and hope lessons are going to be learnt

First, contrary to the bashing of these gallant doctors, I commend them for taking on the task and the risks to set the pace for these types of difficult interventions in Ghana. The outcome has been negative and it is unfortunate but it also presents the opportunity to investigate what went wrong for future correction. There is a lesson to learn here and to be documented for improvement. I encourage the doctors not to let this outcome discourage from any future attempt but to champion the cause to obtain the necessary equipment and maybe, missing training to succeed next time.

For all those who have insulted the doctors, had they succeeded, it would have been a valuable contribution to the practice of medicine in Ghana but who says reasoning and reason count these days in the country? Just look around!

Look at these doctor struggling even to get paid as our politician. Here in the US doctors are paid much well than politicians, but the opposite is what happens in Ghana. Even MP's are paid several times what these doctors earn. See these MP's and minister some with no education or even doctors who never worked being chauffeur driven in Prado's and doctors struggling to make ends meet, and hospitals with primitive facilities. I applaud their bravely to undertake such procedures with the facilities available to them.

This is a very very heart breaking news. Last week, when i read this story about the doctors going to do the separation of the twins in Ghana, i knew that something like this will happen. We are not there yet. Where are our State of the Art Equipment? Where is the electricity? Besides, the Generator at the hospital does not function well. Even after the surgery, the doctors were pleading with the ECG authorities not to turn off the lights at the hospital. Can you believe this? What a shame! We are experiencing power outages after 55 years of independence. This is a joke! By the way, who told these doctors to divide the twins liver into two and give half to each kid? This is preposterous.
In the first place, this operation should not have been done at all in Ghana.

Really and truly, i feel very sorry for the parents of these twins.

Some conjoined twins cannot be separated and they live good quality life. Even in US they separate with caution. Gh doctors are killers. End of story.

I would rather die,than to be operated by a ghanaian Doctor.If ghanaian Doctors are so good why do all the parliamentarians go to abroad for medical check ups and operations.

First, contrary to the bashing of these gallant doctors, I commend them for taking on the task and the risks to set the pace for these types of difficult interventions in Ghana. The outcome has been negative and it is unfortunate but it also presents the opportunity to investigate what went wrong for future correction. There is a lesson to learn here and to be documented for improvement. I encourage the doctors not to let this outcome discourage them from any future attempt but to champion the cause to obtain the necessary equipment and maybe, the missing training to succeed next time. The loss of these twins must not be in vain. It must spur the medical establishment in Ghana for excellence and a challenge to those who have no respect for themselves and others who seek the welfare of the sick.

For all those who have insulted the doctors, had they succeeded, it would have been a valuable contribution to the practice of medicine in Ghana but who says reasoning and reason count these days in the country? Just look around!

I agree with you - coming from a family with doctor's, people do not always appreciate that a doctor is a doctor - not a magician. They were given a task to do and they tried to do it; though it was unlikely they had the equipment for this highly difficult type of surgery.
For doctors each death they experience at an operating table is something that they bear. Medicine is paid as much or less as being an engineer; and yet it is a job that can push people right to the edge and age them ten years more.

This same operation or proceedure had been performed in a developing countries and the success rate is very high. Please provide them with the equipment and they will do a beter job

The Doctors did their part, but one thing was clear, after they claimed the money they went ahead to claim the Glory, when in actual fact it was God who did the Job. so they failed the test of God. they should come out and make a video showing their remorse and lets see how many of them will be willing to be part of that tape as compared to the previous tape of victory.
